After the group stage and last 16 matches, why don't they do a draw for the quarters and so on? Why on earth would we aim to win the group if we already know that we'd likely face Brazil if we beat Japan? It should all be random so this sort of mindset can't exist going into these games.
 
Are we demonstrably that much better than Colombia that we can field a weakened side (tonight) and gamble? I think this WC has shown that more established sides like Germany, Brazil and Argentina have struggled against poorer sides... so why have we taken the route of likely playing the stronger of the two second round options. Don't get it.

Really don't know why the fixtures at the knockout stage aren't drawn out of a hat.
