FIFA World Cup 2022 Final + Play-off ** spoilers ** [17th - 18th December 2022]

Happy for Mac Allister, had a great game! Glad we got him a new contract before the WC.

Feel like we’re going to get offers on a lot of players soon, Mitoma & Caicedo both had relatively decent tournaments.
And next he plays against the mighty charlton. Na im sure he will get a break right? Are you likely to put out a strong team? I fear a hammering especially as we are awful lately

For pure drama you cannot fault that final. Argentina bossed it for most of the game and then it all kicked off. You couldn't write that script (unless you were Gary Linekar apparently!)

I'm not sure if I would have wanted to be a France/Argentina fan last night though. Heart attack.

Great that Messi finally got his WC as well. Absolute joy to watch. The epitome of artistry in football. You have to admire the clinical nature of the likes of Ronaldo and Lewandowski etc but I watch football for the flair and the moments of pure brilliance and no one has ever been as good at those moments as Messi. GOAT.

Happy for Messi but his decision to stay on internationally is wrong imo. Bow out at the very top. Nobody wants to see a 40 year old GOAT struggling to chase former highs.

I dunno, the idea that sportspeople should bow out early to "finish on a high" to ensure a legacy or some such just rings wrong to me. I mean what is going to do with the rest of his life that's going to come close to this? May as well live it while he can.
He's already won the Copa, now the World Cup, doesn't get any bigger on the international stage.

If he retires from International football, Messi will prolong his club career, especially if this new Fifa World Club Cup goes ahead.

I get this point for the majority of sports people but when you're talking about all time greats I think there's a valid argument for calling it a day. You only have to look at what's happened with Ronaldo to see how difficult it is to go from being a true great to being just another player. Although as a Liverpool fan it's been fun to watch, it's quite sad how one of the best players ever has ended up being hated by so many of his own fans because he and his club couldn't figure out how to use him anymore.

Messi is still a top class player but he's not the player he once was and he's only going further decline from here and how he and the teams he plays for adapts to that won't be easy. I guess going to the MLS, which has been reported, will allow him to still be the main man a little longer but what's the point of the MLS? Stay at PSG and gradually become marginalised with your own supporters mocking and ridiculing you for not being the player you used to be, go to the MLS and play with people called Hank or retire at the very top, as the best player that's ever lived?

Messi could easily play far longer than the likes of Ronaldo because he is such a complete footballer. Not the same role he does now but his passing ability, close control and eye for the game won't leave him for years. That little yard of pace is half gone already but little else has diminished.

Up to him what he does. I just hope that he doesn't pull a Ronaldo and refuse to accept when he truly is done.

Except that isn't true at all? We figured out how to use him, as experienced backup. The problem is his ego won't let him be that. His downfall is nothing to do with the club, the blame lies solely with him.

Of course it's true. Utd knew what they were buying and expecting to buy (or keep) Ronaldo as a bit part player was always destined for disaster. It would be like me buying a wild lion and expecting him to be a pet cat, and then blaming him when he bit my arm off.

Utd bought Ronaldo but couldn't figure out how to use him successfully and it ended up a mess.

Except we did, he was top scorer in the first season. The problem is he then declined, tossed his toys out of the pram asking to leave. Then backpedalled when there were no offers. Then he missed preseason, was lazy in training, didn't perform on the pitch, refused to come on when asked and finally put out a hit piece on the club and managers both current and former. Have I missed anything?

None of it is on the club, your bias is showing.

The fans don't hate him because "the club didn't know how to use him" as you're claiming. They hate him because he's a hypocritical piece of **** who is dragging his manager, club, teammates both current and former through the muck in order to try and protect his own image.

I appreciate you were a big supporter of his signing and have ended up completely wrong but this is ridiculous. Utd signing Ronaldo has been conclusively proven to be a terrible decision and the decision to keep him in the summer was even worse.

Every man and his dog knows that Ronaldo is the biggest tart in football and would have never accepted being anything but the main man. You only had to look at the way he sulked when he either didn't start or was subbed in his first season to know there wasn't a cat in hell's chance of him accepting being a bit part player :D

Utd could not figure out what to do with Ronaldo. They shouldn't have signed him to begin with and they definitely shouldn't have kept him in the summer and the fall out was inevitable. Bookies wouldn't have even given odds on it, it was so sure to happen. The fall out and fans turning on him was directly caused by Utd's decision to bring him back and then not kicking him out the door in the summer.

And remember, you're as bias (more so in fact) than me when discussing Utd.

I wasn't a big supporter of his signing actually. Not sure where you got that from. I think I was on holiday at the time and didn't even comment on it.

"The decision to keep him in the summer"

I can't believe how many people need this explained to them. NOBODY WANTED HIM. He has a contract, we can't just get rid of him without paying off that entire contract. He had one offer on the table and he rejected it. What do you expect the club to do?

I love that you think you know better than me, A United fan, how United fans feel about Ronaldo though.
