Martial arts do not make you ... able to "fight".
Are you for real?
lol
Martial arts do not make you ... able to "fight".
Explain what - its an off the cuff story with very little context.
Strange how various professional MMA fighters aren't all bending over backwards to learn tai chi given that it is apparently one of teh deadliest martial arts going. Actually not that strange really as its mostly bullshido....
Aikido can be quite aggressive and attacking. It just doesn't "look" as impressive as Karate or Taekwondo is all. Too many people basing their opinions on a few classes from substandard instructors at the local leisure centre and watching too many Van Damme Movies. (do you know how many of his moves are actually dance moves!).
What about the MMA fighters who have studied martial arts, I'm guessing you think that they didn't benefit from that at all?
Are you for real?
lol
I'd rather not get into the whole mysticism/false traditions etc.. and just stick to the simple reality of evidence - judo shares roots with aikido however judo is used in competition, the techniques are put to the test against real opponents this is the key difference. Aikido involves role play - it lacks aliveness, it isn't tested....

Pretty much, you put any kid with a modicum of martial arts training in a ring with a "street fighter" he is going to get his arse kicked all over the place.
lolMMA is a sport not an art. MMA fighters are there for spectacle, nothing more.
Comparing cage fighters with Tai Chi masters......you have no idea what you are talking about frankly.
Judo involves role play too, that's what lessons are about. They don't compete all the time. And matches aren't exactly fights, they test - wait for it - the role play. Aikido has something similar in randori (youtube it), it's just never a competition.I'd rather not get into the whole mysticism/false traditions etc.. and just stick to the simple reality of evidence - judo shares roots with aikido however judo is used in competition, the techniques are put to the test against real opponents this is the key difference. Karate and Jiu Jitsu have competitions too you know.

Jean-Claude Van Damme had a heart attack last year, so SS is the winner for me
I don't know or care what experience you have.
Two words: karate kyokushin. As for karate that depends on the style - but it is mostly light sparring - flicking someone on the side of their head with the top side of your foot might well score you 3 points in a karate competition but it would be a rather silly thing to do outside a dojo - or indeed in a competition against a fully resisting opponent with less restrictions on what you can/can't do.
Well the main ju jitsu body in the UK has a modified form of judo at its nationals and strangely enough anyone with some BJJ training tends to wipe the floor with them.

Strangely enough regardless of their background a large % of MMA fighters will end up striking in a style that resembles muay thai - simply because when you strip away most of the rules that is what ends up being more effective - powerful kicks not flicks and the punches mostly start to resemble western boxing - not some horse stance karate style of punching.

They're totally going with it.Fake! They're obviously role-playing, or they stole those ideas from MMA.
