How is the opinion of the person who was taught by the person you dislike so much a strawman?

Like Seagal said, it's not Karate....

and its not aikido either...

so I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to bring it up in relation to my earlier point

Is the thread not about JCVD v Seagal?

I have already stated that fighting is about more than any one style.

As for MMA, it's called mixed martial arts for a reason.

What martial arts do you practise and at what level?

Since you have continually refused (or been unable) to clarify what you mean by 'effective', I have been forced to assume you mean 'deal with an attack well'. Which, Mustard sensei does rather well in that clip, no? As a bit of background, he is Seagal's rank - the difference being Mustard sensei has continued to train, being one of the top Yoshinkan Aikido instructors in the world.

Since you are unable to offer any criticisms other than "LOL", I am further forced to assume you are either a troll or stupid. Experience has taught me to avoid both.

Yes and then people making silly statements regarding Aikido, Tai chi etc..

We've already got a forum in which to test the effectiveness of martial arts - MMA competitions.

dowie so what's so ineffective about Akido then? Can we have your analysis and findings please not just because you say so and its not the one you like.

Are you blind dude cant you see the amazing technique there, hes throwing that guy around and hitting him like a ragdoll. Fair enough its more a demonstration than a proper fight but imagine what he could do if he was angry :p

Not at all. Most things in Aikido are banned in MMA competitions. Throat strikes for one. Small joint manipulation another. Plus they wear mits/gloves.

The closest you'd get is street fighting. But why a skilled Aikidoka would want to street fight is beyond me. Competition is strictly a taboo in Aikido, as it is inherently against the principle of Aiki.

So you now admit you are making silly judgements on Aikido and Tai Ch Chuan.

About time.;)

Seriously though, you cannot dismiss either. Like I said before I watched as a Tai Chi master took out an entire commando unit and their instructor, not setup or holding back.

I wouldn't underestimate either frankly.

Its a compliant uke! Of course its going to look good. He's been role playing like that for years to get to that level - its like an art or something ;)....

On a serious note training against a resisting opponent will rarely look as clean as that. Like I've said before I've got nothing against Japanese martial arts and I love Judo I'm asking for evidence of the effectiveness of Aikido and aside from a few wrist locks I've not found much tbh...

riiiight

And somehow no one has managed to put these elite Tai Chi skills into practice in say a competition where various martial arts can be tested against each other - such as in say a mixed martial arts competition.

Tis strange really because when some little Brazilian guys showed up and beat everyone their art became hugely popular and adopted by many fighters. Presumably this one Tai Chi master just keeps it all to himself and everyone else teaching tai chi is just teaching some rubbish form?

It's a competition - the clue is in the name, it's not the ultimate assessment of martial arts. Let's be clear here there is no such thing as the ultimate martial art and being good at MMA competitions means that - you're good at MMA competitions, no more and no less. There will almost certainly be some crossover and someone who is good at MMA will also be able to defend themselves more effectively than someone who has never trained or trains specifically without contact/sparring of some description but it isn't a complete measure of the utility of a martial art since there are still limitations imposed upon it.

Compliant uke?! You mad bruh? Of course he's compliant. Can you imagine the pain/damange what would happen if you resisted any of that? It hurts to comply, let alone resist. Don't believe me? Go see Mustard. He's a good chap.

But you won't define what you mean by effective!!! For **** sake you're hard work. It's like arguing with a 5 year old.

You just don't get it.
