Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - I feel so let down...

I didn't like it much either. I tried to explain the back story to my mate but gave up in the end, he just said it looks pretty. :D

Has anyone seen the FF7 OVA with Cloud and the other d00d. Not a very good description but I only saw these both once and a long time ago.

I don't know who you're talking about so I'll just guess. Zach?

Yup. I think it was the OVA that I thought was pretty good and wanted to know what happened next although again I'm not sure.

Is it drawn animation? I just did a quick google and it doesn't look bad. Might have to look in to it. What does OVA actually stand for? :p

I didnt like it either.

Like DeSade I only made the first 30 minutes then I hit the stop button.

I just didnt have a clue what was going on :(
I never really got the games either but I was hoping for a great Anime, all I got however was some of the most stunning animation I have ever seen, which is a shame as the plot & story just didnt do it justice.

My brother on the other hand loved it to bits...he loved the games as well so perhaps that did have some bearing on it???

Anyway I've donated my copy to him now so it wasnt a complete waste of £14 :p

I think it really is something for fans of FF7. The story just won't make much sense without having played the game. That's probably why it didn't get a cinema release.

There's no way they could have crammed the whole storyline pre the movie though, silly point to nit-pick at.

I loved it personally, specially the main big fight scene :D

Laughed at the mobile ringtone in the church scene too :p

Graphics like no other though, think I may watch it again this weekend

Why are fans of the game so quick to forgive this movie "because it's a FFVII movie"...I played the game to death and I don't feel it really rewards the fans of the game at all, feels more like a teaser of what could have been!

Well I'm not forgiving it for anything. I don't understand what people were expecting from it, it's simply not possible to fit a deeper storyline into something thats not even 2 hours long. I thought it had the exact right balance between story and style.

This is my whole problem though, it was 90% style over substance/story, if they'd spent even a fraction of the time they spent on CGI working on the story instead of trying to blow our minds with amazing CGI (which I admit it was), then it would have worked!

Perhaps they're all delusional and won't admit it was a disappointment.

When I say I "loved" the film, I mean I enjoyed it for what it was. That does not mean I believe it was perfect. Like you mentioned, the plot is lacking when compared to the game and also materia, which was integral and unique to the game, could have made more than a cameo appearance.

Seriously, anything to satisfy my FFVII craving is amazing. Loved the film for the memories etc, and maybe a glimpse into what they could do in a future date. :)

My friend bought me the japanese version back from HK (so it has mandarin/cantonese (sp??) subtitles). Needless to say i understood very little of the film, but the fight sequences were great :D

I must first apologise for the absolutely gigantic level of thread necromancy, however there doesn't seem to be a similar thread that's newer.

I've just seen FF7 AC after "never getting around to it" in just over three years of trying. :p

I have to admit, if you go in expecting another FF7 you simply will be disappointed, it doesn't have the time and size to be able to pull off what the game did. FF7 took well over ten times the length to fully tell it's story, and it shows.

Having said that, I think it's a fairly decent film. There's more emphasis on the incredible CGI fighting scenes than the story, but that's okay - the story I found was decent enough.

My complaints are that it was very Cloud/Tifa/Aeris focused, I would have liked to see more of the whole "crew" as it were.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the blu-ray version going for a decent price though, certainly one to add to the collection. :)

I love the movie, it has the same atraction for me as Die Hard, and why do you watch Die Hard? John Mclean being kick ass, and that is what AV gives, Cloud and the gang kick ass.

If you want FF7, you need to play FF7 because this is no where near it's level of story, however, it is a great movie.

Personally I think the movie has some of the best cg animation I have seen (I've watched a lot).

Now I've never played final fantasy and the only reasons why I actually bought advent children were final fantasy spirits within and the cool looking cover.

As to the plot, I thought it was pretty straight forward to get to grips with but then I do watch a lot of japanese anime so maybe that had something to do with it - I often find that western cinema fills in the blanks first where as eastern cinema seems to fill in when the story needs it.
I would say that advent children struck a good balance of keeping the fans happy (the blu ray version is longer than the dvd version too) while opening up the story to an audience that hasn't really heard of final fantasy

Anyone that hasn't seen the extended cut (Advent Children: Complete) and liked the original should give it a go. Imo it's improved on the original cut heavily, they've even 'upgraded' the graphics with things like blood and grit appearing on the characters as they fight.

Hmmm this is something I need to watch.

Can I ask before I watch this:

Is it weird them having voices? As I take it many of the fans like myself have, in their heads an idea of how these people would sound after playing the game, and then to hear them in a film, I imagine it's kind of weird, almost on a level of watching a film based on a book, then finding they don't quiet measure up to your picturing of the character.

I hope that makes sense.
