Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

Well I had the game for a couple of days now and I'm not sure I like it...:( I find the map quite confusing to use. never played a FF game before so that might be it.
Started as a Maurader and now stuck on a level 5 quest, not sure if it's a main, story or whatever quest - have to rescue a boy from these crab things, just not enough tank to survive the waves that come at you...so I just die and get transported back to town :(

Anyway have 30days to see how things go.

I keep getting disconnected from the server, is that a common issue or something on my end? Can go 30+ minutes between disconnects but it keeps happening.

That used to be a problem before all the patches, but I've not heard of it since, I played last night for a good 2 hours without interruption.

I've not done any of the Marauder/Limsa quests yet, but it might be worth doing a different quest to start with and get a few more levels up. then try that one again afterwards. it shouldn't take you long to gain 1-2 levels if you are currently level 5, maybe 30 minutes or so. Could even jump into a couple of FATEs to get some quick experience.

In regards to the map, its crazy confusing. So much going on etc. However, you will begin to get used to it. I generally just ignore all the big bunches of symbols where villages are and focus on my minimap for short distances.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to filter stuff out on the map, but i've not actually had a proper play with it yet.

You can change tab targeting in the options and I highly recommend you do (there's one list of things it will switch target to for in combat and out of) because by default it includes a whole bunch of rubbish like pets etc... so PS3 users have some way of targeting.

Storyline quests have a boarder around the circle (looks like it's on fire... ish), you can see this in the quest log (j) or on the objective.

Indie thanks for the advice - yes going to have to level up for this quest - but it did say that at level 9 I'd be synced or something like that?

Regards

That does sound like a storyline quest, I think I did mine at about level 7. So I'd go up to around there and try it again. Also, make sure you move out of the way of any Area Effect abilities they do (they will be visible by red boxes/circles on the floor) as they can take your life down quite a bit.

That tab targeting thing is really useful to know, nothing worse than tab targeting and you target something in the far distance thats behind you ^^

I'll check that out tonight!

Anyway to nimdok: how to get in contact? is there something like a whisper? or does that come when level 10 or something?

Ah whoops, sorry! Was kinda caught up with GTA V last night so didn't check back in the thread - you can either type /tell and the character name to whisper, or search for them in the Social Window (which looks like a pair of smiley faces in the bottom right, can't remember the original keybind 'cos I've remapped everything). If you check the post here there are a couple of names of people who can invite you in-case I'm not online.

Hmm, where abouts do you find this option?

After less than 10 minutes this time. Was getting lag during a fight before the connection loss.

Seems like a waste of money so far :(

Is anyone disconnecting? Never had this problem with any mmo before, seems to be server stability issue but dunno.

I was but the problem seems to have stopped since rebooting my VM super hub, hoping that was the cause.

Edit: PC just crashed for the second time today while playing this game. Time to try figure out why :(
