Going to necro bump this from a couple of months ago as its been my primary game for the last few years.
From a personal standpoint - I'm not a huge fan of the story mainly because the Main Story Quests and Side story quests are unengaging, faceroll and boring gameplay wise. Every so often they'll come up with some instanced content for it that's good and i'll pickup story bits, but 99% of the time i'm rushing through the story to unlock the raid quicker. That's just personal preference though, I can totally get that people are into the story.
I was more into the story in ARR (the first expansion post remake) because there was story during the raid content then (with one exclusive big cutscene which got complaints from a lot of the non raiders in the game).
Gameplay wise - I enjoy it, although in this last expansion the classes got simplified too much in my opinion. They don't really have a clue how to balance classes for end game really - classes like Warrior, Scholar, Bard, Dragoon and Ninja seem to permanently be strong and never get nerfs.
Raid content wise - The older savage tiers and ultimate content is fantastic. The last 4 Savage tiers have got easier and don't really live up to the name - some fights are hit and miss. The last raid tier (Alphascape) was probably the best out of this expansion.
Generally if you enjoy raiding, you'll end up playing for the raid then unsubbing until the next raid. The game is on a pretty static formula regarding content, although this expansion they tend to stagger the release of content to keep people subscribed.
The other thing i'll say is that the general community of the game is absolutely awful. If you go into a daily and ask the healer politely to do some DPS rather than standing around afk, you'll be in for a bad time. I keep playing because I enjoy the raid content but outside of that I play other games instead.
