Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

I'm thinking about buying this as its on offer, never played an MMO before, but i love the single player games, i'm not a massive gamer nowadays, only a few hours a week at the most but id like to think id enjoy this, am i too late to the party now?

The games pretty active, the way the leveling in this works means even when you max out you can still do the old content as it will sync your level with a max for the instance you are doing which in turn means there's always someone around.

Ah fair enough, its probably too late now haha! i'll learn the game first and may create another character later on, although I quite like the path I've chosen. started as a lancer, there doesn't seem to be many about on this server.

Stormblood released today, I only made it to 58 before launch and have been playing since about November last year. I kinda like they don't allow any fast tracking or skipping the main story elements but I also wish I'd managed 60 in time to level with my friends.

I'm also playing again, I haven't played since ARR came out and totally skipped Heavensward. Managed to get to 58 over Saturday and Sunday by running Palace of the Dead. I must admit to having bought a jump potion though, just so I could skip the ARR and HW story quests, those would have taken me far too long.

I'm enjoying doing instances with my friends again, although the mindless running of Palace of the Dead is so tedious right now. I have high hopes for when I finally get to Stormblood though!

ShortWarning: That is what I like about it to, fair warning though...the RR patch content leading into HW is long and during that time you don't really level up much as those quests were not designed to give XP outside of kills, that dragged a little for me however the story for all of that is really good. There are some monster cut scenes in there!

I'm still 58, my server is really busy and taking about 2-3 hours to get through the queue so I need to remember to sign in when I get home from work if I want to play that night, I image it'll be worse tonight now it's full launch instead of just early access.

Yea, I have heard that part is a bit of a slog.

Got to level 30 a few days ago and haven't progressed at all, just been faffing around. There's so much to do. The 3+ hour queues haven't really helped though.

Whilst long I didn't find it a slog as the story is pretty good. I've found lvl 55-58 a slog as I had been ignoring side quests as I was levelling up with the main story, that quickly stopped and I found myself with a large XP gap I needed to fill. I think when I hit 59 there are enough (mostly) main story questions to get me to 60. The HW patch content appears to be shorter so I'm thinking I'll get through that quite easily...once those queues die down :(

Are there many OCUK members playing FF14? Very tempted to try get into the Story and people seem to be loving it from what I have read.

Any idea what server is best to try and get onto?

Just picked this up in the Steam sale, but didn't get the Stormblood add-on in case I don't like it. Any tips for newbies? I'm a life-long Final Fantasy fan, from the first one, but know literally nothing about this game apart from the failure it was at launch and how A Realm Reborn gave it a new lease on life.
