I'm surprised people are paying so much for printing/binding?

I'm going to print mine out in colour on my home printer and then get it binded at uni for £2.50...

tbh, could have done better.

Mine was properly hard backed bound by a local print firm for about £12

Well worth it. I would have given it a 1st presentation alone even if it was filled with used bog roll.

Before opening this thread when I read "project" I thought the dissertation was about a system build and expected to see nice pictures of some uberly nice case.. What a shame. :P

I guess when you have worked so hard for a piece of work you want to present it in the nicest way you can. I was quite proud of my disso so didn't care how much it cost to make it look nice and print it on nice paper.

I binded mine myself, the plastice binder thing cost 35p from the uni and the binding machines are at the back. Admitidly it doesnt look as smart as the hard back bound ones but they said all we need is plastic ring binding.

Mine was bound by the uni - we had to pay like £5 for the binding/printing I think - but then we did it in department rather than at the reprographics place which is general to all the uni.

It was only like 90 pages and 9k words though.

Same here, in fact we HAD to use plastic binding and yellow card at the front and back (department standard). Cost me about £5 in all to print and bind two copies (including a couple of A3 maps).

Planning on printing and getting my Dissertation bound tomorrow. Need to finish writing it first - few more sections to go.

Sections as in chapters?

Just finishing up a chapter in mine, and hoping to be finished by Thursday at the latest, I am a couple of days behind but as I am on track to finish early either way it is not so much of a worry...

Yeah, i see your point but it seems like a waste of money to me that something which will be read once or twice, marked and then thrown on a bookcase somewhere :p

I'm Scottish though so that might explain it :D

I'm trying my best to finish mine tonight, it doesnt look likely though...

So it is the last week for me, I hand in the 30th, how is everyone else getting on?

I will be posting pictures tomorow, and my hopefully well bound project :)

Don't have a paper copy handy, but I still got the PDF of my final CS diss - It's about 80 pages with the code stuck on the back.

My Computing final year project is in on the 30th. I am in the process of proof reading it! I'm bang on the limit 50 pages for actual content, with the rest of the 79 page document being appendices, summary, acknowledgment and table of contents.

My final year project was a group thing, it weighed in at over 400 pages, plus about 120 component drawings, had to be split into two volumes because it was impossible to bind! However, I know for a fact that no one ever read it, what a waste of a tree (and time)!

No dissertation here, but my final graded end of year HND assignments are tipping the scales at 23000 words and will probably end up at about 28K when finished. Business management is 11500 alone, the other three I'm doing (programmable logic control, engineering design and materials engineering) are a fair whack less involved.

Aiming to finish mine by Friday, 10k limit but going to realistically aim for 8k. A staple should hold it all together nicely. It will have neither quantity nor quality.
