Fire risks prompt tumble dryer recall - Now washing machines as well!

I got in touch in November and they came back to me after chasing them last week. They expect it to be April before they come to me now.

It has only cut out and filled the house with smoke once so far, so with luck we will still all be alive when they come to see it...

Anyone else taken one of the new "TDWSF83BEP 8kg Condenser Tumble Dryer" models at #99?

Probably worth me trading in my frankendryer IDC75 at this price? The replacement is showing as #300 on the rainforest.

Amazed at how old this thread is we only got our letter last week as did my parents who have the same dryer.

Also amazed its taken so long to come to light that there is a problem.

We have been told it will be done in about 8 weeks time and to just maintain it and not leave in unattended.

My wife is super worried about using ours at any time at all even though the email says it's ok to use accompanied. Engineer next week - frankly we are always going to be wary of this drier now - fix or no fix, we just don't trust it.

I actually wish mine would spontaneously combust, zero confidence, I'm close to just replacing it anyway and sticking the repaired one on eBay or gumtree.

The issue stems from people not performing maintenance as per the instruction manual that came with the dryer.

Not on ours, there was a design flaw that allowed some fluff to escape past the filter, build up round the back and then potentially catch fire, yeah you can clear the filters etc but over time and extended use etc etc, ours got 'fixed' a couple of weeks back

Well I decided to go for the £99 replacement condenser above. It looks a much nicer unit than my absolutely ruined 10 year old idc75, seems a good time to retire it. Looking at the prices of dryers it is a genuine offer to be offered it at £99 so I thought why not :)

Got my email yesterday, did the same. our ic75 is is good nick (only 5 years old ish) so i could have just got it repaired, however the TDWSF83BEP they are offering has a moisture sensor and the idc75 doesnt so i just went with that :)

It's amusing, my indesit is being replaced by a hotpoint that rebadged and sold by whirlpool. heh.

Cool, yep the moisture sensor looks like a good feature.

I just hope that parts become available for the new model over time (or that it shares parts with a popular eBay model). My idc75 has had so many new parts over the years that the self tapping screws on the back have all but worn out any grip to hold the side on any longer :p

Another nail in the coffin for mine is that it has developed an earth fault, so I've had to temporarily strip the earth from the machine to stop it tripping the rcd. Not ideal :p

I wish I could have a £1 for the amount of people who used to say something like "I'd never buy Creda I always buy Hotpoint". For decades they've been made in the same factory on the same line with the same people putting the same parts on. Since 2002 Aniston and Indesit badges were put on them.

Aye, I used to stick the flexible crevice tool from our dyson car cleaning kit down the opening of ours every now and then (starting around the time we got the kit, and I registered the fluff was getting past the filter years ago).

The problem has nothing to do with the filter.

I took mine apart and the only part after the filter is a plastic tube to the back which connects to the vent pipe. Any fluff would just be blown out the vent pipe on mine.

Three chaser emails and still no fix for ours...first reported it way before Christmas

What email address did you use? I searched in vain for one when I reported ours 12 weeks ago or so. I rang them in the end and it got sorted, although the engineer visit on the 28th Jan and said I have 'A curved back machine and you need a flat back conversion, I'll have to order some parts' meaning the whole back assembly including the bearings and drum will need to be replaced. These are now in and the repair is happening next week (18th). I'm surprised they've repaired it tbh, as this will now be two visits and a fair amount of work to swap over the internals. Plus point is new bearings and drum lol

Got one of the £99 replacments today. Not a bad machine in the flesh and a good cheap upgrade to my 7 year old condenser it replaced.

Was originally concerned that the new one would not fit well, as the online info stated the depth was about 65cm when in fact its more like 55cm and fits spot on.

The modification is changing the back panel.

They won't replace the drum, the bearing is swapped regardless as you have to remove it to complete the modification.
