FIRST BUILD HELP!? - BEST GAMING PC FOR AROUND £2500

Thinking of potentially adding a 4K capable GPU... what would you guys recommend to run with the Tomahawk that won't break the bank?
There ain't such thing as graphics card properly pushing 3840x2160 pixels at high refresh rates.
Instead of actually having some super high performance Nvidias have bad and super bad performance per price.
2080 Ti is just ~35% faster than fair £400 Radeon 5700 XT.
(2070 Super only little)

Correct time to look for expensive longer time usage graphics would be late this year when hopefully all next-generation cards are out.
That includes also Intel who is joining discrete graphics cards game as third player.
Though probably staying in high volume mainstream products (good for OEM markets) at first.
Just wouldn't expect any better prices from future Nvidias.
Because why would the perpetrator stop when the ones getting raped and robbed just keep asking for more?
Most likely AMD's raytracing architecture developed also for next gen consoles is the only one giving good performance per price.

I'm looking to go all out and get the Asus ROG Swift PGU72Q monitor, wise choice?
Stay away from G-Sync monitors, unless your idea of good buy is paying for Nvidia to lock chain and ball into your ankle for marriage to Nvidia's brand overpricing in future.

FreeSync monitors work with card of any maker, including those coming Intels.
Unless Intel wants to kill their chances for selling gaming cards to anyone capable distinguishing mouth from butt by not supporting FreeSync like they promised.

Anyway monitor selection development has been very poor for years and high resolution and high refresh rates panel monitor availability is minimal with only paper announcements along the years...
Because "paper release" would be too good term for these Duke Nukem Forever schedule products.
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/l...ips-panel-160hz-refresh-rate-and-dsc-support/

Again 2560x1440 selection is very good with plenty of panels to choose from.
Except for 32" missing high refresh rate IPS, which have also been pushed later again and again.

Ok cool thanks guys... so what would you suggest that I do for now before the new GPUS come out later this year (or waiting till they come out to snap up a bargain on a 2nd hand card)? Shall I bother going for 4K at all until then?

Also I just got an official email from MSI saying the new Tomahawk is coming early June, no official date though.

If it was Me I would go with a 27" 1440p 144Hz+ IPS monitor and either a 5700XT or 2070S depending on your preference, and if you need CUDA for your Video editing. They are both solid cards for that resolution. Then once the 3000 series and big Navi has released and had time to settle with drivers/prices etc then you could look at upgrading or just stick with what you have.

No real reason to buy G-Sync anymore with the majority of Freesync ones supporting Nvidia gpu's for less money.

The MSI rep on here reckons end of May, or 1st week in June for the X570 Tomahawk.

Thanks Lee. What 1440p 144hz monitor and 2070s would you suggest? I see there's an AORUS 2070s coming out in a couple of days for £660.

The Pixio P7 Prime is usually priced pretty well, although not sure what availability is like at present. Not sold on here, so you would have to google it.

The cheapest good 1440p in stock on here would be the Gigabyte AD27QD.

I wouldn't pay that much for a 2070 Super. If you want Nvidia then the Gigabyte Windforce is £529.99. The Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC is only £419.99 though, so much better from a value perspective.

Thanks a lot Lee. Sounds great. Love a list!

That’s amazingly under budget! Just playing Devils advocate, is there any area where I could spend a little more to get more out of it? Only if nessecary, but I want it to be killer! :)

Is it also worth getting a cheaper gpu, that can still easily handle most FPS games I play like valorant, apex etc, with the mindset to spend big later in the year as you guys have said? Maybe it’s not worth spending now? Also, what are these upcoming gpu’s to watch out for?

Thanks a million once again!

A 2080ti is overkill for gaming as it is.

Especially if you not gaming at 4k.

Also in my opinion its stupid to spend more when it comes to pcs. Its smarter to spend less and upgrade more frequently.

For example my mate spent £2500 on a pc.

I now 2 years later have a better pc than him although spent a lot less.

The max needed for you IMO is

B450 tomahawk
3700x
2070 super or 5700
16gb ram
1tb ssd
650w psu
3tb mechanical

Shouldn't cost more than £1500 to be honest.

Literally setting fire to money by overspeccing.

It would be better to spend less and upgrade in 2 years time.

There will be a new gpu out within a year which is the same speed for half the price. So stupid spending £1k or more on a gpu.

There is no such thing as killer pc or future proofing.

I'm willing to bet even a 3600 would be more than enough for your needs.

It's also funny how you have been told amd is a poor man's Intel.

AMD is king of cpus and has been for a while in terms of value for money and now performance too but sheep just follow the herd and buy Intel.

I would steer clear of this board as support is being cut and for the whopping £130 price tag it's just not value for money anymore, either go with a sub £100 B450, wait for B550 or stick another 20 quid in and go X570.

It's £109 from 2 different sites. Fair enough but all prices have went up for the high demand low supply.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna stick with the new x570 tomahawk when it comes out in a couple of weeks.

@Lee thanks a lot man... that monitor looks sweet. IYO, Any big reasons to choose the 2070 super over the 5700xt?

The 2070S might be better for Video editing depending on what software you are using. The link below suggests that Adobe software tends to optimise more for Nvidia, although Adobe Premiere Pro does well with both AMD/Nvidia, as does DaVinci Resolve.

The x570 toma is in. I've taken no chances and pre-ordered that already.

The only part I can't seem to get is the 'Arctic freezer 34 esports duo fan'.. are there any others you recommend? Once I have a fan I'm all set! excitement. Here's the build in it's entirety... let me know if there any issues.. before I order it all!!

Have you gone for the PCIE 4 M2?

No I went for the standard PCIe m.2.... should I have gone for the PCIe 4?

Will definitely send pics!! Gonna look sweet.. if I don’t mess it up. First time. Fingers crossed.

Hi guys quick question as I’m building this right now... the mobo cpu_pwr placement has an 8 (called cpu_pwr1) and a separate 4 pin header (called cpu_pwr2) do I need to use this second power header or ignore it? Build Hardware is as above.

thanks!
