First car

Now, saying that on here is asking for trouble! If its your car, and you are in practice the main driver, then you are technically committing insurance fraud.

Better to have you as the main driver, add your mum as a second driver (can save you over £100 on some policies) and start to build up your NCB. And you dont commit insurance fraud.

I am still on my mothers insurance as I had some bad offences a few years back and it is still stinging me now.

Some policeman with an attitude problem pulled me over once and checked my details. Basically said that I was doing insurance fraud and that I was the main driver. I said prove it and no matter what im still insured to drive this car. He then said be on your way.

Until 5 years im not even thinking about having my own insurance as its 3k+

there is a good reason to quote you £3k+, to force you off of the road, and to make you pay for your wrong doings. your insurance quotes are like that for a reason.

I was under my Dads name for my first 2 years of driving. Just about everyone I know did the same until insurance came down to an affordable level. In the worst case situation of you crashing, how can they prove you drive it the most?
It may not be proper but it sure is common!

Now when a guy at work tried to get his imported Impreza STI insured under his mums name at 21, they laughed at him and put the phone down

So because of a few minutes of stupidity when I was 18 and having to retake my tests again I shouldn't be allowed to drive for five years even though I had already served a 1 year driving ban??

I'll get back to that soon
Have to ask my mum as she is going to be the 'main driver' as apparently it lowers the insurance quote.
My dad is the main driver on our policy so I'd go for it especially if you're sharing the car.

you should be allowed to drive, but with increased insurance premiums as you must be a high risk driver. as much as we like to think people change overnight, a lot of the time that isnt the case.

pay your dues tbh.

I never said I was the main driver, hypothetically speaking it would make sense to do it.

I dont think it would. It is people who commit insurance fraud then crash because the car they are driving is too fast for what they can afford that increase insurance premiums for the rest of us.

no you havent, points stay on a license for a period for a reason.
im not bothered how old you are or what you drive either.

if you cant afford to legally drive on the road, then you shouldnt be on the road.

But still if you cant afford to insure a 1.6 fiesta on your own insurance don't drive a 1.6 fiesta.
