First "FULL" review of Skylake

Lmfao massive fail. No reason to move from sandy bridge STILL, 4.5 average on an i7 with only a 20% IPC increase over sandy bridge. Given sandy generally clocks to 4.7 I really do not see a reason to upgrade, if you have anything newer than sandy bridge even less reason to upgrade.

5.7% IPC increase over haswell.... but performing the exact same, or worse in games! Same power draw!

They will still sell millions though.

The 6600K I can see a point in, clocks pretty well and decent price etc. The 6700K? you would have to be barmy to buy it over the 5820K.

Most of all, for people upgrading there is no reason to choose this over X99 D:

Bet they'll sell more 5820ks than 6700s today ._.
Like Fury did for the ti.

The crushing disappointment continues.

Intel! You used to improve your CPUs between releases... what changed?

I think the thing that changed was the lack of competition :( Bulldozer was bad for everyone...

Why would intel bother improving their products if they have no reason to? Might as well make tiny improvements each year, stuff the free space due to die shrink with pointless GPU's to inflate CPU's to the price of previous ones (as the small died CPU's will cost less to make over time), then change the socket every other year to make even more money from chipsets.

In short, no competition and human greed. It's the reason anti-monopoly laws exist, sadly intel don't "technically" have a monopoly so they can't be enforced.

i dont get what people are suprised about ?

they have their platforms set out.x99 is the king so why would they make new platform cheaper that is quicker ;)

just business they got all the set ups at the prices they want.they cant lose.

It looks like the old 4970k DC is still very good option.

Will see how long for , bet a fair few have just pulled the trigger on one to use older memory etc concidering the reviews are extremely lackluster . Don't Intel pretty much kill off previous architectures there and then on the release of new stuff ?

Couldn't see it in any of the reviews, do old 1155/6 coolers fit?

I'm looking to go 6600k from an 8350, and use a Alphenfohn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler at the moment. It's 1150/55/56 compatible. Nice cooler, so would like to reuse.

The 4970K will still be around for a while yet, Intel needs to ramp up production on Skylake before it becomes EOL. If you have DDR3 already why not get a 4970K and if not you can get DDR3 pretty cheap on bay etc. making for a very cost effective upgrade or just jump straight to Haswell-E 5820K and some low priced DDR4 / Motherboard.

I can see a decent clocked Haswell lasting 5+ years easy!

Nothing has really changed look at how good Sandy Cpu`s are, still performing great. A 4970K or a 5820K will last you a very long time. Its GPU`s that give you the real boost when it comes to upgrade time.
