First gaming pc

Great, thanks @Plec.

Is the gpu just as good as the other one you put in before?

When you made that basket, was there an option for them to build for £70 then?

Ps your time and help is much appreciated

Speed marginally faster (but not that you would notice) - but the Gigabyte aftercare plus UK RMA is a real bonus.

No - but once you have the final spec post in the Customer Service Forum and ask them to cost a custom build - i'm guessing at price from forum banter...

No problem.

Additional:

Looking at your spending power i would swap out the PSU for a modular version and you could opt for AM4 approved memory - in either 3000MHz or 3200MHz flavours (but pricey).

Something to consider...

My basket at Overclockers UK:

That's awesome, I'll post the specs in the customer service forum.

Nice one, I'll let you know what I choose and how I get on

Just a service if it is impossible to get the cpu to work with the motherboard.

With a totally new build you wouldn't be totally sure what was at fault if it failed to boot - even if it was a compatibility issue.

Would be best practice to return the CPU, MB, PSU and memory back to retailer as the symptoms could be systematic of a MB failure, memory problem, dodgy PSU or even a corrupt CPU. The retailer would be able to identify this at no cost to the buyer - even flashing the BIOS.

Hey all.

I'm nearly ready to order the build that @Plec did. Would you change anything as it's been a few weeks since you did that spec?

I'm thinking I want a 1080 card instead of the 1070 though. Would everything still be ok with the 1080 card!?

Also, I've found this monitor, AG271QG, does this seem like a good buy to go with my pc?

Thanks

The 1080 would sit fine in the system and compliment the 1440p monitor - some games would definitely benefit on ULTRA settings. (not totally necessary if funds are tight - which judging from your monitor choice isn't the case.)

The AG271QG is a great monitor if you can afford it and again would compliment the 1080 -especially with G-Sync.

I've found this card- Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1080 GDDR5 8GB OC WF3 PCI-E for £498 on another website, good purchase?
Quality card - i would have steered you towards Gigabyte for warranty purposes and UK RMA anyway.

Will you be streaming/twitch etc?

Think I'll stick with the cheaper Ram if gains would be minimal.

I like that case so think I'll go with that one.

Think I'm pretty much sorted then. Just got to pull the trigger now haha.

I'm gonna do the build myself, OC wanted £100 so thought I'd give it a go. Only thing that I don't understand is what you mentioned about Q flash!? None of the videos on YouTube have mentioned it whilst doing a ryzen build.

No streaming/twitch etc. Just gaming and maybe storing photos

Then the 1600 CPU is perfect for your needs.

I can guide you through the Flash process when you're ready, very simple. But do it with a minimal setup:
  • CPU
  • 1 stick of memory
  • GFX card
  • Keyboard for BIOS navigation
You will need a freshly formatted FAT 32 pen drive with the latest BIOS installed. Then you enter the Q Flash utility by pressing <END> as computer boots.
  • Enter Q Flash
  • Follow on screen prompts - with pen drive installed
  • Navigate to BIOS and install
  • wait for reboot
Once installed you can carry on with the build and OS install etc..

Watch YouTube tutorials for build advice - it demystify the process and help will me/others explain things in more detail without you getting confused.

Sort of makes sense....I'm totally new to all of this so I'll do some homework.

Thanks again @Plec , you've been really helpful mate.

I'll update when parts are here.

No worries - it will make more sense when it's sat in front of you semi built with a screen staring back at you. It will all seem like a foreign language at the moment...

Ok will change that psu over.

The RAM is out of stock, any alternative for the same price? If not I could source from elsewhere

Sorry to butt in but do you mind if I enquire why you're buying an additional CPU cooler and not using the Wraith Spire one that's included with the 1600? (reception for that one seems positive so it's not immediately obvious).
