Having a bit of a problem with my first job...

So I decide to go on this expedition our school is running, and it involves saving up quite a large amount of money, so I started looking for a job and managed to find one at the local McDonalds, submitted application, went for interview, and was told I had got it.

I've been working there for about 3 weeks, and I really don't enjoy it, I know I was never going to, but this is different. The manager is extremely moody, always shouting at you, and there is a large amount of stress and pressure. As soon as I get home after a shift I just start to get worried and I find myself worrying about the next shift, even if it is 5-7 days away.

I know jobs are becoming increasingly rare, and I'm lucky to have it, but I am starting to wonder if it is worth it, and give up and hope I'll find something else.

Anyone got any advice?

Have a go at trying to find another job whilst still working for them...

If you manage to land another one, quite your older job. Simples.

How long to go until your expedition? If you *really* need the money, stick at mcDonalds whilst looking for work elsewhere.

You're right, you should be thankful you've got a job.

I would advise to stick with it and look for another job. Walk down your local high street and apply to all the stores you can. Avoid supermarkets (IMO) and large chains (too much corporate BS, regional manager visits, etc) and go for smaller/local places as they tend to be much nicer places to work.

As for your manager......he's just cranky because his life is managing a McDonalds......try feeling sorry for him instead :p

This happened to me in October.

I was moved to another branch and after being there for 1 week i hated it. I handed my notice in and left.

Took me 4 months to find another job, but im lucky as i have supportive parents.

Still the best thing i done. Being unhappy at work is not good for you!

You could try looking at one of many other places such as supermarkets, cinema, cafes, other fast food places.

As mentioned you could stick with it and make it your job. What's the general feeling from your colleagues? Have some of them been there a while?

If you find working in MacDonalds brings too much stress and pressure don't ever apply for a real job! Yeah your boss is a cranky pain in the bum but so are half the mangers in the world, man up, tough up and live with it while you look for a new job. Quitting because the going got tough is sad and pathetic.

I don't talk to many people when I'm there, I just kinda keep to myself, and think that annoys the manager as well, as I need to be louder when I have to shout over when some fussy person doesn't want lettuce or cheese or whatever lol :D

This man speaks the truth!

Look elsewhere if you really cant cope but you only need the job for a year its not 5 days a week from what I can gather go in do the work come home and forget about it! People are pushy at work for a various reasons promotions / power tripping / wants their company/store etc to do well.

Tbh some of the people that i have seen working in McD's (not saying that you fall into this) would be a hard bunch to get any work out of at the best of times.

Think about what you will get out of it in the end.. and the satisfaction your not stuck there for the foreseable future like im sure some of your collegues are!

People i know have worked through macdonalds whilst at uni and yes management sucked but they liked the job because of the friends they made. MAn up it is not a bad job at all.

One of my summer jobs labouring I was once held by the ankles as so i could reach down a road drain and clean out a U-bend by gloved hand. (The smell )

Whats so bad about the manager? You havn't really said, does he pick on you in particular? Are you always doing something wrong.

You sound to me like you want to take the easy route out and wanted people on here to back you up.

That's not it at all, it's my first job, I'm 16 and I was just looking for advice from people as most of the comments you get here are really supportive and are helpful and I don't really know who to talk to or ask about it.

Regarding the manager, at first she was like don't worry about it and enojy it, and then she is shouting at me and telling me all the stuff I am doing wrong, and I don't think she realises that I am trying my best at it.

Go to your doctor and get a note booking you off for stress related depression citing your manager as the cause. Get incapacity benfit as pay and drop the manager in it as well - win win ;)
