yet the same price as the quest which also has the in built processing power for the display.
The Quest is subsidized, swinging the other way with the S which partnered Lenovo to streamline the cost.

The display is slightly better but absolutely not night and day. I upgraded for the inside-out tracking (which works well). If you already have a 3 sensor setup and no issues with tracking I would say it's not worth it.Just to jump onboard.
If you had a Rift would the Rift s be enough of an upgrade. Or wait for then next, Next gen

For me it was a massive upgrade, and I came from a 4 sensor setup.
The clarity of the screen is just so much better. Once I tried the Rift S, I couldn't go back to the Rift.
No IPD adjust, 80hz, and very poor sound quality. A massive jump in screen clarity and reduced SDE, but at the cost of less vibrant colours and grey blacks.
Also the new touch controllers, while great, are not as ergonomic or robust as the CV1 controllers.
Only game I play is Elite
Dont suppose you have any experience of that combo

I am confused about how these headsets tether to the PC. I understand some use HDMI, some use USB and some use wireless.
The GPU in the PC obviously pushes pixels over HDMI. If the same graphical power can be pushed over USB or over a wireless connection, then why in the hell do we still have to have thick HDMI or DP cables running to our monitors?? Why don't these modern GPUs use wireless directly or USB connections??
Google tells me the bandwidth of HDMI is almost 10 times that of USB 3, and a hundred times that of wifi. How then, can these headsets run like this?
Elite will be massively better on the Rift S than the CV1. Much higher apparent resolution due to the sub-pixel layout, and god rays are almost non-existent. The main difference is the grey blacks, and after playing Elite on the Index, which has similar black levels, this isn't really a big issue in Elite.
I have the game and tried it on both headsets. The clarity in the game on the Rift S is amazing. But, the black levels aren't as good.
Is there anything annoying you at the moment about what you have? God Rays? Reading the ships screens?
Issues with Reading ships screens and "bloom?" if thats the correct phrase. Feels like the screens need a good clean
Anyone noticed if motion sickness is any better with the Rift S.. It has been a while since I played it and surface mission used to knock me sick
