all i heard was MMmm HMMM OOO HMMm... i guess thats what happens when you have a mouth full of sandwich whilst trying to shout ive caught some fish! :p

The weathers looking ok for my trip on Saturday. The Bream and Mac's have arrived.

I'll expect I'll go for Bream over the slack water with my spinning rod, then see if I can pickup and Rays and smoothies when the tides flowing. It'll be nice if there are some Tope out and about too!

Went fly fishing (lake) for the first time last Saturday, didn't catch anything (few nibbles though) but I did enjoy it! Bought a cheap/beginners road and going again with my mate next week.

Going out from Keyhaven, Near Lymington in the New Forest. Winds from the north so hopefully we'll get out to some of the deeper banks of the back of the Isle of Wight.

Only slightly envious :)

Whilst in the brighton marina's Tacklebox I saw they have both the Daiwa Kenzaki and Braid Special boat roads - lovely works of art.. 12-20 Braid Special they had listed at £180... can get it cheaper.. but unfortunately I have rods that work well for boat fishing.. including the £20 used-bin 20lb uglystik..

For me I have rods that work .. only one that is slightly difficult is the 14' beach caster I have which cost €35 and I got free.. could do with something that has a bit more bite indication. Thinking a second hand Daiwa Supercast 14' Fixed Spool would work for brighton marina, selsey and trips to france. Can pick them up 2nd for about £100.

The Braid special looks so nice, so thin and light, serious fishing bing. I've got a Kenzaki 20-30 which I use for Rays and Congers in big tides.

Was the Kenzaki you looked at the new one with the kind of burnt Orange colour on it. I need a new 12-20, I've got an oldish is Diawa Proteus which is nice but the rings are a bit to spaced out for Braid, I'll be getting another Kenzaki I expect!

I've also got a supercast 13" nice rod hardly ever go beach fishing nowadays

Yup the one they had in was the 6-12 Kenzaki with the burnt orange look.

I'm stuck using my 5-10oz uptide for the 20-30lb needed for wrecking. Works well but rather large even with the tip bent over.

Yeh long rods get a bit unmanageable on the boat. I really like using my 30g spinning rod but at 8'6 its a bit long. Caught a 8lbs Smoothhound and a Bream just shy of 4lbs on it which was a bit mental

Yesterdays trip was an odd one. We headed out for the deeper clear water off about 5 miles south of the Needles. It started off abit breezy and choppy but soon calmed down to no wind and flats sea.

We fished the ebb for about 3 hours with almost nothing to show apart from Dogfish and small Whiting and one 13lbs Smoothound. We decided to move to another mark with some more rocky ground. The slack water was rubbish, no Bream at all. Then we had another couple of hours with just Dogfish. Then with about 45 mins before we where due to leave everyone started catching. We caught Spotted Ray, Conger, Small Tope, Undulate Ray and Smoothhound.

I was having a bad day up to this point when I picked up a reasonable conger, only 12-15lbs but it put up a really good fight for its size, I had to go easy it it was on a size 2/0 hook.

Skip called 10mins to go, so I dropped down a fresh squid, within 30 seconds of it hitting the bottom I hit into something decent. It felt like another conger, but after a few minuets fighting it, it was staying deep so thought its was probably a Ray. It took me about 5 minuets but eventually hauled up this lovely 15lbs 8 Thornback. A new Ray PB for me, so it saved what was going to be a poor day. The bait must have landed right in front of it

Released her and packed up my kit and we headed home!
