The photo of me with a Thornback ray I posted on here a month or so ago, is in this months Sea Angler :) Second time they've put my pic in there.

i got a DAM float fishing rod worth £100, shimano jumper and £50 from the anglers mail around 20 years ago for catching a big carp and them putting the pic in their mag

no one is treating the fish roughly, placing a fish on smooth pebbles on the beach is fine,
and the ones that get killed are for food, i guess you dont eat fish then?.

well fishing was a bit poo this week, lost a 6" bass in the surf and caught a 9" micro baby smooth hound, only saw one other fish landed which was a smoothy of around 8lb

Hmm decisions, decisions.

I'm considering a shore rod.. but something a bit better than the fibreglass 420cm (~14') beach caster I have now that cost about £20 new. Now as cainer can support - this rod has about as much bite detection as a brick.

Budgetwize it's at the cheaper end.. and so a couple of options popped up.

15ft Agility Long Surf (3pc) that will take a fixed pool and will give a decent detection. It would pick out 6oz with bait if needed without resorting to jedi casting.

14ft Agility Sea Tipster (3pc) that will be more subtle - although the tipster is boat focus.. stated as casting 4-8oz but likely to be about 6 max. The benefit is more sensitivity (although I suspect more wind sensitive too). The 14' is designed for light beach too.

I'm tempted by the longer rods because I have a 9'6 uptide rod that will belt out 8oz with a large bait, is really a 20-30lb boat rod with a forgiving tip.

^^ i think id decide how much i could spend, then get a good condition second hand rod best bang for the bucks

Yeah, although it's easier to order, something in the range 70-120. Possibly Agility 15' Long surf, Penn Rampage2 15' (4-6oz though) or the Vermicelli Unabomber 460 as that does 100-250g.

Ok, ordered myself a Vercelli Unabomber 450 at a tidy price of £111 (including vat) after the mrs agreed:) This will be my shore rod for a while to come.

Additional stat weight is 595g for a 450cm rod.. compare that to 514g Agility Uptide 9'6 and 605g Fladen Sea range 50lb 7'4!
