Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

Small spanner in the works, my mrs got a call from my mate’s mrs, turns out he’s decided to shack up with a 40yo gym bunny. So he’s moved out of the house and I assume the boat will be sold to cover legal fees! Not mentioned that to anyone either!

That's pretty mental. He must be getting something pretty golden to take such drastic action.

Issue i have is the mrs i doubt will even talk to him, and he’s busy socialising with the new woman+daughter. So i figure (selfishly) that my boating buddy will be absent until he gets dumped. He’s got 3 kids too.. so it’s going to get messy..

Anyone been out recently?

Our syndicate was fishing it's head off in the warm weather last week, it did about 16x fish in 2x weeks, I think 5-6 forty pounders, I managed a 45.8oz mirror and a couple of twenties, it's mad catching fish like that in January lol.

Cold again now though, not sure how it's affected it as it's mega deep, but it won't have helped.

If anyone is a part of a club or an association of some sort Angling Trust have been putting on free workshops. In person and remote via teams.

Check out their FB page for more info.

There is one on tomorrow in regards to Fisheries Enforcement Workshop.

I dug out the fly rod and waders the other day. Looks like a cracking day off for a blast across Northumberland, tops down and finding somewhere to thrash about on the water.

Never tried fly fishing. Definitely a bit of an art.

It's not as hard as you might think to learn the basics of casting, and you can practise anywhere with a bit of wool tied to your line.

Obviously, like most things, mastering it is more tricky, I don't do enough fishing to enjoy it in windy conditions for example.

But up here with so many beautiful trout rivers, it's as much about the day out with a couple of mates, having a drive and standing there enjoying the stunning views!

Sounds better than festering in a bivvy for 48hrs catching sod all :-)

Yep, blanking fly fishing isn't as bad as when I used to do a lot of coarse fishing as a youngster.

I spent about £300 on a day salmon fishing with a guide/tutor on the Tynes, just around where they become The Tyne.

Neither me nor my mate caught anything, I did get a big take off a trout and missed it, but it was still a cracking day out.

A bad day’s fishing beats a good days work. Do you put the trout back or are you allowed to keep them?

Either depending on the water and your views.

We certainly wouldn't have taken a salmon had we caught, they need to be preserved.

Stocked lakes tend to charge a price difference for catch and keep versus release with a limit on what you can take.

However stocked lake trout don't tend to taste great anyway.

E.A rod licence checks are out in force today with it being a bank holiday.
Someone got caught on a day ticket on my local lake.

Court summons letter to be issued to the angler.

PS. No it wasn't me, mines got 11 months to run out.
A reminder please check your rod licence if you are fishing.

Renewed mine this morning. Went today for the first time in nearly two years.

Was down the beach last weekend, generally a little early for decent catches from the beach here. Swamped by dogfish, a small strap eel and about 57million crabs.

Hoping to get back out on the lures soon :D
