London City Airport was brought to a standstill on Tuesday morning after a group of Black Lives Matter activists stormed the runway.

The demonstrators say they have "shut down London City Airport to protest the UK's environmental impact on black people".

#BlackLivesMatterUK @ukblm
By 2050 there will be 200 million climate refugees. Black people are the first to die, not the first to fly, in this racist climate crisis.

So climate change is now a race issue? I'm struggling to see the link tbh, its not like climate change isn't a global problem.

Looking at the photo's online, the protesters are all white, why are white people trying to hijack this black political protest movement?

Biggest group of idiots going. They had a representative on r5 live the other week and she could barely string a coherent sentence together.

Bring out the riot police.

Shock, pictures show it's a bunch of white most likely middle classed left wing idiots.

We should have 0 tolerance for these morons. Spray them with CS spray, arrest them and throw them in a cell. I'm sure these troublemakers will soon stop.

The point is that the first people to feel the strain on climate change will be those in the poorest countries - countries which are, of course, populated substantially by people of colour.

Further, the angle here is that the west would care more about climate change if it were more directly affecting them.

As it happens, I consider this a dilution of the BLM movement, and a distraction. It's a bit too abstract for most to understand (see this thread), and doesn't really help the cause (quite the opposite)

I'm due to fly from there at 14:45... :(

We are just trying to find out whether its even worth going to the airport. Luckily its only for work and not leisure. I like how they are waiting for a specialist. (Guy with bolt cutters. :D)

Rotherham.
Would it cause to much damage to the planes if they just take off & land as normal but just run over these idiots?

They could then call it Black Lives....Splatter!

So everyone else who wants to protest has to abide by the rules and limit their numbers, a non-aggressive location and cant be seen to illicit more members.

But no, when a bunch of a soft-headed regressive lefties want to make a statement by shutting down a civil structure, its entirely ok.

Thank **** the world is headed for a an authoritarian structure, especially so to deal with the exact issue they seem to purport here, maybe we can finally shut them up.

Sorry guys, but I'm definitely bringing this average down! :D and i'm in IT to further skew their stats.

"The average salary of a London City Airport user is 136,000 euros (£114,000) and 63% of them work in business, finance or other business services."
