Floods :(

In the 70s(i think it was 70s) we had big floods ever year for about 4 year straight.

Then it stopped and we got 1 every now an then.

We have had a few floods over the past few years now.

But if you look at that then it cant realkly be too much global warming because that wasnt around in the 70s.

I think El Nino was though ;)

That's the problem with global warming, because it's a subject that we all think we know about, all have opinions about, it's become a psuedo science.

Either the science is wrong and we can pollute as much as we like, or we're close to messing up the world perminantly.... TBH I think we need MUCH MORE funding for research on this issue, and the "they're just worrying us to get more funding" is stupidity.

can we stop and reverse the effects? NO

so why worry about it.

Actually the holes in the Ozone layer have started to repair them selves in the last few years :)

Maybe if we pollute more then we will experience global warming on a bigger scale, but i dont think these weather patterns have anything to do with it

For prediction???

Even if we are all doomed I'm sure that those guy's in Glos would have liked a more accurate forecast?

Yep but thats something we could change, I have read about experimental fuels, economys and emerging markets. It is not possible to lower co2 emissions to even halt co2 ppm let alone start to reduce co2 ppm.

I'm not saying give up on research ect, just stop the scaremongering and the we have to lower co2 ect.

 God you're going to look VERY stupid if they are right.

And you will look VERY stupid if 'they' are wrong.

Have one back.

Who knows if humans have contributed to climate change. Who knows if we can even do anything to change it. Nobody kows for sure.

So I say again, i'm not jumping on the global warming bandwagon.

Will London flood, seeing that Oxford has and Reading is supposed to? I damn well hope not seeing as I'm in a ground floor flat near the Oval, in Kennington, which is about 1/2 a mile away from the Thames and most certainly not elevated in any way.

Looking at the flood map thing, the thames can potentially flood just around up to where Brixton Road starts.

And why? I said I hadn't made my mind up! I'm keeping an open mind.

Eh? That's not an alternative reason, it's the same reason.

My article says:
Yours says:

Your article also says:
My article reports on a brand new paper - not published until Wednesday that offers, for the first time, evidence for this expectation. It says:

In the UK, extreme rainfall is likely to increase in winter, but in summer the predictions are unclear. Improved modelling and understanding in the future will help us to reduce this uncertainty for the UK."

But Jim Dale, a risk meteorologist at British Weather Services, says it's down to bad luck, not global warming.

"It's a sexy subject and people like to stick labels on things. Global warming is the latest bandwagon going past so whenever we get a heatwave or floods they blame it on that."

Yeah, the Environment Agency map thing states that the area has a less than 1 in 200 chance of flooding. However, my flat's only half a mile away from the river and the following article (although probably typical Sky rumourmongering rubbish) says South West London could flood...

Why? A lot of the measures we need to take to reduce the effects of man-made CO2 emission are good and sensible things by themselves.

Use less electricity - good thing, less pollution, resources last longer and you save money.
Recycle more - less land fill waste, less chance of the council opening a new land fill site near your house.
Promote micro-generation - again save money on your electricity bill.

My work area I cover is Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire!

Went to Stroud and Cirencester today, motorway wasn't that bad. The avon at junction 8 is so wide, never seen anything like it.

Tesco Cirencester Extra was limiting consumers to 24 litres of water each.

I was just countering his pointless comment with another pointless comment. I agree that there is no harm in recycling and being more efficient and less wasteful.

 Of course - he's talking about this individual event which is just bad luck, no one would say otherwise.

What the new evidence shows is:
"What this does is establish for the first time that there is a distinct 'human fingerprint' in the changes in precipitation patterns * the increases in rainfall * observed in the northern hemisphere mid-latitudes, which includes Britain.

Electric went off in the middle of the night but came back on just before 8am. Can't see it staying on for long if theres more rain to come.

We thought our water would go aswell but for some reason it's still working perfectly fine. Perhaps Hardwicke doesn't run off the Tewkesbury plant?
