Flu, how many of you have actually had it?

Ah the usual "I've had flu" crowd :)

Can't say I've ever experienced it myself, luckily. I have had very bad colds which have lasted the best part of a working week.

The biggest distinction I can make from a bad cold/flu is that you will still recover from a cold, yet the Flu has the potential to kill you. Instead of 4 days off sick you are likely to be out of action for 2-3 weeks.

This is why I found the whole "Swine Flu" debacle quite lol worthy. Due to it killing basically no one in the developed world and lasting a few days with no real chance of killing you if caught and such.

I'm not flaming those who've said they have had it, or those with it now (or those with very bad colds).

The main reason I say all this is that someone at my place of work still uses it at least twice a year with the old chestnut "Oh, I was off yesterday and the day before....touch of the flu".

If you have the flu you definetely wouldnt be posting on the internet.

Ive had proper flu I think twice in my life, one was particularly bad, i couldnt even get my head out from under my covers because my headache was so bad, i was soaked in sweat and freezing, horrible recurring thoughts, phrases stuck in my head going over and over and over until I was driven to near madness.

My wife at the time thought I was faking, it was hugely frustrating, then she got it, and felt ever so bad that she hadnt believed just how horrible it was. Rotten cow that she was.

the worst part is when you start getting the sore throat, the first signs of cold/flu. then the next day it plunges you into a death pit, half way through the night of hot and cold sweats and wierd dreams, then when your alarm goes off for work and you get up you get that funny dizzy feeling, head pounding, you actually walk and sound like a zombie, it's funny how women class it as man flu, but when they have it's totally different! when it's the same thing.

I thought i had until i really did! Felt bad and went to lay on the bed. Woke up with the sun blaring in and burning my head. Couldn't move to shut the curtains. Just had to lay and cook. :(

The best test it try saying you have flu. If you manage the full sentence you ain't got it ;)

I have had it just the once thankfully. Out the game for the best part of a month, actually not moving from bed....and I don't mean lying in bed watching TV and browsing forums, I mean in bed dripping with sweat, yet being freezing, coughing up something that looked like alien spawn. Didn't eat for nearly a week when it was at its worst.

Only good thing to come out of it was that it put great perspective on any subsequent hangovers.

Update - Still got a nasty cough and cold but physically, I feel so much better. Must have slept at least 50 hours over the last 4 days :D

That's not flu Gustov you puff.

I've had Flu once in my life and I will quite happily go without ever having it again, I couldn't get out of bed, my skin and even my hair hurt. I slept for about 15 hours the second day and like someone further up said, you're either boiling hot or freezing cold. I was off work for a week and a half.

most people are too quick to say they have the Flu when what it actually is, is a bad cold.

There's a bout of flu kicking about work right now. I've been feeling crappy as well but I'm taking enough medicine to kill a horse. I've got two weeks of holiday coming up next Wednesday and I'll be damned if I'm going to be ill.

Had it twice before. It's been an absolute ******* each time. Horrible.

Once had it so bad that I was unable to walk because I didn't have the energy. Really nasty.

Over the last week we have seen a masive upturn in Flu numbers being confirmed positive, particularly the strain of H1N1 we saw earlier in the year. We are having to prepare contingensies just in case the climb continues :(

Pfft!

Tell that to me when it's 04.30 and I'm dragging my arse downstairs to turn the heating on despite having 2 layers of clothing on, a blanket and a SLANKET!

I'm glad you bolded the gayest part of that post :D

If it was Flu dude, you wouldn't be posting, it knocks you completely off your feet!

I've just had a bad cold over 3 days with:
Temperature changes
Cough
Sore throat
Blocked Nose

I really hate it but what can you do. Last time I had the very same thing guess when, during ....... summer when I went abroad on holiday. It was very hot and I felt great until one evening when I started having sore throat, it went down hill from that moment for about the same period, 3 days :( So I have no idea how it was even possible.
