Focus CC3

If you don't need the back seats and want a car thats good fun to drive then perhaps look at the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0i, its got a folding tintop might look slightly camp but miles better than that ford thing.

Well it seems a very nice car and a good price for what they had on offer in their showroom. I've looked around several dealers at different types of cars to see what has taken my fancy having originally started looking for something a bit higher of the ground and driven a few different types before looking at my options and seeing what I could get extra if I looked at something a little more ordinary. Then yesterday I had a go in the CC3 and it was by the the most likely car that I feklt that I wanted to spend a decent amount of money on.

So, what, in the £16k price range can I get, thats NEW that is of the same ilk but better than the CC3?

Seriously, are you a car snob?

But when you have 16k to play with you can afford to be a badge snob!

You can get better car's that that for a 1/3 of the price. Any reason why it has to be new? You are SERIOUSLY limiting yourself if it has to be new.

EDIT: quick search on autotrader shows something like an Audi A4 Cab is affordable - which is FAR better.

I'd even think you were mental for spending 15k on one of them, but since you're looking at buying a brand new CC3, anything is better.

Problem is you haven't really got enough money for a folding tintop in that size, the other options are Vauxhall Twintop, Renault Megane (which might be out of production now), my choice would be the MX-5 or EOS (if you had more money to spend, you are even bottom end of the price range for a new softop.

You either need more money / buy secondhand (upto 1 year old) or buy the focus.

Maybe I am but it's what I want.

The Focus CC is not a brilliant car. You think it is, presumably because you've yet to drive an actually brilliant car. Low standards are not a reason to spend £16,000. I suggest you drive some more cars so you can get some perspective, then you might realise how £16,000 for a Ford Focus really is rather a lot of money.

Secondly, the new car thing. What? I'm not going to suggest you buy something ancient that'll break all the time but come on. It's a car. It's not going to explode after 3 years. You'll find loads of decent 2 year old cars that are better than this Focus in every possible way.

You'll regret spending so much money on such a mundane car one day, I just hope the regret comes before the cheque is signed.

Hell bent seems a bit strong. I was originally asking for opinions as to whether it was a BAD car and nit the fact that there was a car park full of better cars. I know that, but it's a case of one step at a time as I try different cars and this is a step that I'm happy to take.

I'll probably find that down the line when I move on from this car I might try for something more to what is being suggested here but for now I'm quite happy to go for the CC3. It's a nice car and I like it :)

You could go and set fire to a load of 50 quid notes then buy what we are suggesting, financially it would be the same but it would save you having to drive around in a Focus diesel with no roof :)

I can understand why you're saying that but I reminds me of the Clarkson's of this world who test drive £500K supercars and then call the Vectra poop.

Strange how he seemed to love the Mondeo ST220 and Mazda6 MPS, both of which are it's main competitors.

I think you think that everyone on here is a huge badge snob and we only drive around in Merc's and BMW's - because that isn't that case, plain and simple. The Focus hatch is a very highly regarded car, as is the Mondeo, but they're only highly regarded because they are in their correct price point! I'm not saying a Ford Focus is a bad car, because it isn't, but what i/we're saying is that for 16k there are far better cars. Also, as if you needed another reason not to buy a CC3 for 16k, the depreciation on these will be terrible and I wouldn't expect it to be worth more than about 9/10k by next year.

Umm, the fact that there are better cars means its not as good as something else you could be buying.

its not about going and trying cars like a bentley cab or a f430 spider. its about going and driving something in the price range that is 2nd hand.
A4 / 3 series cabs / saab / volvo whatever, eon even. Just go and try them so that you can get a real feel of what is good and what isnt.
Just because its better than what you have driven before doesnt mean its good, just that its not as crap as other things you have driven.

Doing this will end up with 1 of the 2 opinions:

1) the focus is as good as you thought and still worth the money
2) the focus isnt as good and something better could be bought for the money

even if you end up thinking no1 is correct, surely its better to know than just think.

The difference being you cannot afford a £500k Supercar but you can afford a 2007 Audi A4 Cab.

Which is a better car than the Focus in every single way.

why not reserve the new cat buying for something that would be really worthwhile in the future, when that new car is better than most of the 2nd hand cars that would be available.
rather than wasting it on a Focus CC and thinking 'ill never buy new again'!

So you’re planning to spend £16k on a whim?

Why don’t you at least make the effort to drive a variety of cars in your price bracket? Visit a few dealers, drive some new (and some 1-2 year old cars for comparison) and then you’ll at least be able to compare this precious Focus CC with something else.

I’ve got friends like you who stubbornly refuse to do a bit of research on large purchases – I simply don’t get it. It’s not a small amount of money we’re talking about, and what happens 6 months down the line when you think to yourself ‘Actually, this isn’t as good as I expected’.
