Focus CC3

mr tommo I heard they invited the hand brake too! The steering wheel controls were frigid though and said no.

I'd post something constructive but I fear it would be wasted. Plus I am quite happy with my contribution so far here.

I darent ask what part the Exhaust played in this affair:p

I think the problem that people can't get thier head around (including me) is that in watch terms as you put it, you are spending close to Rolex kind of money and ending up with a tarted up swatch.
But I'm not. I'm looking at about £12K outlay for a new CC3 and a new Audi would be £22K. Yes a two year old Audi maybe price up the same as a new Focus but as I've said I'm looking to buy new.

And the reason that this thread is four pages long isn't because I won't listen, it's because everyone else seems to want to tell me that the car that I think is acceptable isn't as good as a car which is almost twice the price when in fact no-one has alerted me to the fact that some people have had problems with leeks and drips on the earlier versions of the CC. Which, is pretty much the reason I came here in the first place, and I thank Kev (I think) for pointing me at the owners forum where I found that out.

Now thats the kind of car that I'm prepared to go for second hand. My Megane was similar and I was well chuffed that I got a nearly new car for what I thought was a decent price.

A year old Volvo c70 with the 2.5t engine would cost the same as a new focus cc 2.0. Largely the same chassis, but the Volvo has a better interior, better engine, and IMO better aesthetics.

Yep and it's still a year old!

edit - like I've said, for this kind of outlay I want new. I've never spent this kind of money on a car before, chances are I won't again in future so as a one off chance for a bit of opulence (sp?) this is worth the gambel (if there is one).

No, not unless your current vehicle has a value of zero. Which of course it does not.

You've only ever owned, how can I put this, completely crap cars. I can't blame you for thinking as a result of this experience that used cars are crap. The ones you've had do indeed fit this criteria. What we are asking you to have a LOOK AT (not do, simply LOOK AT) is completely different. You'll find a 2 year old Audi to be significantly better than a brand new Ford. The whole abuse thing is a load of rubbish - its incredibly unlikely to be abused, and if it has been abused yet is managing to hide it there is nothing wrong with the car.

Has anyone bought a mint nearly-new used car only to have major problems because of the way the previous owner drove it? Anyone?

On a serious note, like i said 5 hours ago, the OP is obviously set on getting a fantastic 16k Ford Focus CC and no amount of reasoning will convince him otherwise. I guess he's convinced a 16k Ford Focus is t3h l33t.

Maybe I am, after all it's my money and my choice. But like I said more than five hours ago, can anyone think of a reason not to?

Except it's seems I forgot to add "because they're are proven to be nails let let water in quicker than Niagara, not because a two year old used car whcih cost twice as much in the first place is better"!

No.

I purchased a year old Mk2 Ford Focus and still have it 2 years on with no problems. I drive a Ford so your badge snobery argument is void, sadly. Buying a Focus CC is madness, but buying one new? Seriously.

What is the fascination with buying new? The depreciation will be horrid on one of these things, surely?

Believe it or not, people in this thread are actually trying to not only save you a considerable amount of money but also to help you attain better value for money.

Oh, also... saying you are only paying £12,000 for a car because you are trading your old one in? You are kidding yourself into spending a serious amount of money on a WHIM. If you can't see this then you should go and look up the word "asset". ;)

Whats stopping the receptionist at the Ford factory getting off on your gear stick one night after work? Crazy thinking I must say.

If i knew the BMW receptionists (at either cribs or crawley) were doing that to cars being serviced, my car would be in there every month!
Some stunners in those places!

The Swatch that I have on my wrist tells me the time. It's ok, it even looks nice but it's not a Rolex. I have no desire for a Rolex.

I hope that that goes some way to making some sense of what you don't understand.

Surely if that was the case you would be buying a 2nd hand car that does what you want for a lot cheaper, rather than a lot of money for a new "watch" that is actually worse quality than a decent 2nd hand quality brand "watch"

Yes as it has been mentioned numerous times in this thread a used Audi A4 Cab is a much better buy than the Focus CC regardless if the latter car is brand new or not.

The only reason you can seen to come up with not to look at the Audi is some stupid claim about a women getting jiggy with the gearstick (seriously what?!). In fact that is the most random reason I have ever heard to not look at a car, come to think of it I didn't ask the dealer I got my Clio from whether any men had got wiggy with the exhausts...... Dammit!

Your budget means you can look at Audi A4 cabs at Audi main dealers which will be in generally excellent condition (yes there will an occasional rough example) and relavtively low mileage (seeing as thats a concern, I can't be bothered to get into that), the only difference is that it will have a lower number on the plate (if that is such an issue get a private plate).

Just a few quick examples of what is available for ~20k at an Audi main dealer: (made the assumption that a new CC3 Focus is 20k)

Fox you son of a gazelle, my gear lever has herpes which I just found out about "Oh you don't need to wear gloves" they said when I got it, yeah right good advice Skoda! And don't even get me started on the SV650's side stand. Let's just say the entire length had strange spots all over it. And that was brand new. Damn Suzuki factory is right next to a brothel I'm told.

Oh... I just realised my ranting has gone against buying new as well as second-hand! Bugger!

Lovely cars mate but I'm not spending £20K, if I can get rid of my heap and spend £12K then I'm happy. I'm going back to ford on friday but I'm busy tomorrow and just to show that I'm not as pig headed as some of you may think I shall go to have a drive in an Audi on Thursday. Or put another way, I shall go and have a look and if they're asking silly money for used cars I shall get back in the car and go home.

didnt you say you are expecting something like £6k for your car? so you are not spending £12k at all.

why would we care what you do?
we're merely suggesting that you not rush into throwing money away on a new focus cc.
going to the audi dealer purely to spite us is just silly
