Who's been in one? Drives one?

I've been reading a lot about them on the forums.
What sort of things do I need to look out for when buying one? Any major problems with them?

Also can they be lowered just on springs or do they really need dampers too ?

I don't mind modified one that are not running massive power, saves doing it myself and shouldn't be a problem if it is well looked after. There is a nice one on ebay at the moment.

Cheers

Well changing the spring rate or length you should be changing the dampers to match whatever the car surely?

"The engine is assisted by a Garrett turbocharger and produces 212 bhp. It goes strong from low revs, spearing forward through five gears as the Turbo spools up between 3500 and 6000 rpm. The Quaife differential copes admirably with the power, although torque is limited to 177 IB-ft in first and second."

So only 1st and 2nd. :)

I have been in one pushing about 250bhp, damn could it get the power down round corners for a fwd car. Apparently really easy to get them to about 260bhp. Then if you really want to I seem to remember there is a company which converts them to 4wd. :p

Had a look on there, ffoc has far too many forum catagories though.

I'm a bit spoilt with my Rover knowledge. lol. I know some cars, Merlins teg for example are fine on just lowering springs, where as others do really need matched dampers.

I fancy the Focus as its a very nice looking car, holds value well and in essence is very similar to what I have now. If it is as quick as my Rover with similar power I will more than happy. Nice to have some off the shelf bits too. Servicing aint that bad either it seems.

How heavy are they?

As for my Rover... Well it i probably worth 4-5k in bits. No way will someone give me that for a 160k (130 on clock) 12 year old Rover :(

Should keep the Rover, itll cost so much more to get the Focus.

Not sure how heavy the Focus is, but itll be much heavier than the Rover.

we run a couple of RS Focus here at work doing driving experience days. They seem pretty bullet proof - I've never seen one on the ramps for anything other than consumables, and they live a hard life!

The cost of new front discs and pads made me

front engined, front wheel drive, 2 litre turbo hatch back.

With LSD & track ready handling.

I'd say it was similar - apart from the obvious age issue. Very similar driver style required.
