this is true but it still faster than the stock map, yet saves fuel go figure :cool:

I do see where your coming from if you have the money go for it, but like me it gets tedious spending time in a garage every 250miles

I've just run some figures and i'm coming to a base mileage of around 15K in 2011 (before little "excursions" like sometimes we go to Bristol/London/Hull to visit family/friends). To be fair i'm struggling to see where 30K has gone in 2010, but it has.

When you look at it though, its not awful when compared with other hot hatchbacks. I mean the new Clio 200, MK 5 Golf GTI are only realistically gonna give you 25/26mpg off the motorway, and nearer 35 on it.

It's thirsty yes but not by a huge amount more than similar cars in its class.

Driven sensibly it will do 30mpg, i've done it and if i can,anyone can :D The problem is the noise,its so addictive especially when its mapped to hit boost at 2000rpm.
 
Petrol prices at the moment, added to the amount of miles i do was one of the reasons i haven't gone for the ST, although the car i've chosen isn't miles better, its enough to make a difference.
 
I would also like to add that i've only had my ST since the start of December and lets face it the average temperature has probably been about 2 degrees so i would have thought that the MPG might get a bit better when the temp increases :p

Indeed. The noise it makes was one of its selling points for me. Sounds like you've got an angry tiger in the boot when you put your foot down :D

I believe I've told you before, but on a run upto London with a mixture of free road, heavy traffic and queues, 50 zones and town driving, I've averaged around 33MPG in the ST (mapped) before.

On the open stretches I was sat at 80-85 with some blasts upto (and beyond) triples.

The trick is to drive economically when you cannot go fast - light throttle inputs, high gears and foot off accelerator as much as possible (down hill etc.)
 
I've decided that the only way i'm going to be able to decide is if I borrow an ST from somewhere and take it on the A38 run myself.

The missus is just being her usual "OMG PETROL COSTS" self and I think an actual drive with her in the passenger seat where she can see the trip computer is the only way i'm going to convince her.

Of course, it'd convince me too.
 
My average sits at 24.5mpg, thats with a 50 mile round trip to work covering mostly dual carriage way :) I tend to sit at 80/85, im also remapped (DS Race+)
 
Ok so this thread got me doing some tests. Reset the MPG trip and did my daily commute (10miles each way).This consist of 30,40 & 50 mph A and B roads plus a small town ( during rush hour on my way in, so a fair amount of traffic)

With a light foot and frugal driving.....

Oil temp needle isn't at 90 degrees yet - so is it safe to assume that most of the commute was driven with a cold engine?

Not trying to pull your figures apart, just wondered really. :)
