I've noticed a lot of people driving around in the fog with no lights on - this is far more dangerous imho. Saw a police car driving along with no lights on in the thickest fog I've seen and he was on the phone

I've actually had to use my rear fog lights recently as my tail lights have decided to work intermitently - decided to do this after a 200mile trip home with no rear lights on mostly unlit roads

I disagree. Xenons are infinately more distracting, and annoying.

Last week was especially foggy where I live, the amount of people using front fogs without using the rears made me chuckle a bit. I am guilty of using front fogs, I drove from Blandford to London on xmas day at 11pm and until I reached the A303, i was driving on B roads. They illuminate the sides of the roads very well, and wished they would come on when I flick full beam on, because reaching for the switch every time a car was oncoming was taking my concentration off driving, so in the end left them on (it was misty anyhow but not full on fog and not one person flashed me). I never use them in town or A/Motorways because I have Xenons which do a good job.

Fog lights aren't so bad, its people who can't use full beam that annoy me.

I drove for 10 miles down country roads with some moron behind me with full beam on the entire way. Ended up doing a pretty risky overtake just to get out of his way as it was hurting my eyes so much.

You mean you chuckle at people who use front fogs but not rears, when it actually is foggy? Because I often do that myself if I think conditions suit it.

It's because of the recent fog people put all their foglights on and forgot to turn them off now the fog has gone.

They won't be turned off again until it's foggy again and the person thinks "ah, better put the fog lights on!"

I can't say I've ever been blinded by anyone's front fogs. Not once. Idiots with full beams who decide to dip three or four seconds too late, yup? Clue: If you can see the other guys headlights, you've dipped too late - you've already dazzled them.

Xenon headlights would be pretty close to top of my baninate list. I honestly cannot see any good reason to have them at all. And it's not just badly fitted jobs; every car with Xenons is a hazard to other road users.

They are a dream to use, makes driving at night so much nicer

Xenons are ace, it's simply the angle of many appear incorrect

The worst offenders are 'off roaders' as the lights are physically higher up and need to be angled down more to avoid blinding oncomming motorists... and many simply aren't.

Yes, I have. I found them a little better; but certainly not dramatically so. I don't think the benefit justifies the extent to which they disadvantage other road users.

As someone else said it's when the Big 4x4's have them and they are higher than others, I don't have a problem when other Xenon users come towards me.

The only time I got flashed up when I was in the Astra with Xenons was when an elise was heading towards me, he flashed me and I flashed him back.

He shut up after that

Usually it's when they're behind me on Motorways and dual carriageways that I have a problem with them. They're so bright they dazzle in the mirrors; and it's not just 4x4s that are a problem, Salesman Saloons do it too.

the other thing that miffs me about Xenon's is at certain angles they appear blue.

Fogs make it difficult to gauge just how big the car that is approaching you is, you don't see the silhoutte of the vehicle until much later. This is what i find dangerous about them.

You should dip the mirror in that case then.

Xenons make road so much more visable, the std fit ones are around 3 times brighter than fillament lamps, its the best optional extra you can have on a car tbh.

Really? 'Cos you know I never thought of that :rolleyes:

1. I don't know about your car but I've never seen a car you can dip the wing mirrors on.
2. You can't see as clearly behind you with a dipped rear-view mirror.

Which is exactly why I'd ban them on the roads.
