Foglight Morons

Hehe, I was in Merry Hell yesterday, I went to get the new Clarkson dvd, as for some reason it had been overlooked by Santa :p ...anyway, this guy pulls out of a space just behind me, so I think great, slot it into reverse and this utter nob in a civic sticks his nose right in between the reversing rear quarter of my car and the space and then sounds his horn for me to move. At this point I'm thinking less than christian thoughts and I place the car in park and give him a bellow of Bavarian straight six ...he didn't seem impressed so I try a finger and drive off. I just wish I was brave enough to jump out, tap on his window and tell him to sod off as I was 'already' reversing into said space! ...anyway he looked bigger than me and in an even worse mood so I thought better of it.

Thats the problem its just not worth the aggro, but when the adrenline kicks in is natural to behave stupidly sometimes.

Really is a hell hole that bloody place.Quite funny how pretty much nothing was left on the shelves in next, people really will buy anything.

i have only driven in very bad fog once (as in you can't see, let alone read the road signs) and front fogs were very usefull for seeing the edges of the road, otherwise even the other week when visiabilty was bad front fogs din't do much

You're correct, my bad, but to be honest all of those modern gas based white lights are eye piercing and extremely annoying.

Just a point about HID headlamps. Yes, auto levelling systems are fitted to standard fit units. Whilst these help minimise glare, they will never completely eliminate it.

You can have the best aligned factory fit HID headlamp system in the world, but it will still occasionally glare people, it's just a fact of life.

But then all headlights will occasionally glare, especially if the car is coming over the brow of a hill or similar. People just notice it more from Xenons becuase they are cool to hate at the moment.

Cool to hate? I can't say I've heard anyone else complain about them. I just find them annoying and some of them are so bright you can't even see the damn road.

This is true - but the bright white light from a HID system gives off a stronger, more noticable glare that naturally attracts your gaze. My Dad tells me similar things happened when halogen headlamps became commonplace.

I like HID's, I just wish that people would stop screaming about the glare problems being caused by poorly fitted aftermarket kits when the same glare issues are present in the HID's fitted to a 70 grand Mercedes.

Fog Lights don't bother me, its people who don't dip their headlights.

Of have those very very bright blue lights :(

You're pretty much right there fox.. although I am being a bit of a hypocrit here..

I was stopped a couple of weeks ago before xmas, cuz I had my fogs on, didnt get a fine, he just told me off and let me go.. now the reason I have them on is because my dipped are totally pants.. and I only use them on on NSL country roads with no street lamps... and I always turn them off when theres oncoming traffic... again, as even the beams on them are totally pants.

Why don't you instead spend a little money and get some good bulbs for your car? You can get Osram 50% brighter halogens for £16 delivered from www.powerbulbs.co.uk. They will light up the road much better than your standard ones, it is what I use in my Focus and I certainly don't feel it is needed to use my fog lights when going along country road. Same goes to the others who have posted in this thread complaining about their dipped/main beams.

Cool to hate? Since when?

To be honest I'd associate being cool to hate with front fogs, as shown by this thread ;)

And they're a whole load brighter so glare from them is a lot more of a menace.

Nothing to do with being cool I'm afraid, I just don't like them :) And I reject the notion that halogen lamps were just the same when they were new, because they simply don't produce anything like the same effect. If something is too bright and then it's too bright, it will always be too bright, now, next year and in ten years unless human eyes evolve in that short period of time. Which they won't. Just accept that there are well founded reasons for people to dislike them which have nothing to with envy, being cool or them being new.

I was followed by a policeman the other night with a misaligned headlight on his panda car. That was halogen more blinding than any xenon light I have encountered. They are safer period, which is why more and more lorries and coaches are being fitted with them from the factory.

A misaligned halogen lamp is worse than a correctly aligned xenon? What a useful comparison

You seem to be getting confused. Yes I know xenon lights are better FOR THE DRIVER, just not for everyone else.
