Foglight Morons

Fog lights aren't really blinding for me, the ones that are annoying are the people with the HID and all that gumpf blinding the hell outta me or making the rear view mirror hard to use, even with it flipped down. :(

and that needed to be posted here why exactly?

He is deriding the reduction of traffic officers over the years as the shift from emphasis on most motoring offences to that of speeding has taken place, and cameras have become of greater focus than traffic police. This therefore means that whilst you are now many times more likely to be nicked for speeding, you are far less likely to be picked up for driving like a tard or having your fogligths on.

But you knew that, you just wanted to stir up the whole speeding thing :p

no i didn't.
i could post that i'd love an extra pair of legs so i could run the 100 faster...but it's not going to happen is it?
so due to it being an unrealistic request i don't.

the main issue in this thread is that there are either too many ignorant/poor drivers on our roads, not that there are too few police to do something about it.

Cant say fogs bother me. And no i dont use them. What bothers me more are complete and utter morons that drive around with parking lights on in foggy, or dark conditions.

Why?

cos police on the roads would stop / reduce this subject.

much like the fines for using your phones while driving.... what was the point of making that law?

when you think about how much the population is increasing in this country due to convicts coming in from other countries that dont want them you really would think the police force would be getting BIGGER?? how is that too much to ask.

I ask myself this every day when I drive (because I see it every day) and I've even seen police cars do the same.

I disagree with this, at least in my experience at any rate. The police seem to see front fogs as the non issue that they are and just leave drivers to get on with it.

I've been stopped once.

Ironically it was about 5 minutes after leaving the M62 where the fog blanket was so bad I was doing 40mph.

have you any idea how many extra police you'd need to make one iota of difference?

to try to get it through to morons that whilst on the phone their mind isn't on the task at hand...ie driving?

at present there's approximately 110 thousand coppers (total, not just those on traffic duty) for a population of 60 million.
by what margin exactly would you like to see the police population enlarged?

what you suggest is so unrealistic it's not even worth mentioning.

TDS, all it would take is one cop going out and making it his sole duty on his shift to stop and ticket EVERY illegal use of lights he sees (and if it was me, I'd hunt down dantonkin and make him the first victim).

Once a few people from different walks of life started having to pay out fines for stupidity like that it wouldn't take long before every forum available had gripes about people getting pulled for it. Enough people get pulled for it and people around the country are going to start taking the hint and not wanting the ticket themselves.

I don't think it would take more than about a month before it got through some rather thick skulls (and some self-centred ones) that it is against the law, and an EXTREMELY easy one to catch you at.

Hell, you want to talk about a revenue generator for the police departments?? They don't need any special equipment to catch you as even the most basic of cameras will see you from a mile off. Pull them over, give them the ticket. Takes 5 minutes and you've just generated 30 quid for the police department. Do two an hour and you've just paid the cop's wage and the fuel for the cop car plus a little more to put in the coffers.

Win - win situation for us all.

Well said that man, I couldn't agree more. If you need fogs on to see the road when its not foggy then you either need an eye test or perhaps need to clean your lights.

In Germany there is a law that says you may only use your fogs when visibility drops below 50M. There is another law that says when your fogs are on you may only do 50 KPH (about 30 MPH). By implication then everyone who has fog lights on because they believe they can't see the road well enough should drive slower then the rest of the drivers who can see properly.

Are the front fog lights in my Mondeo rubbish?

I don't know what they are really meant for.

I mean, when it was foggy for around 7days solid around here I was trying different light combo's one day. Front Fogs seemed to make little to no difference. Rear fog light, yes, increases the visibility of your car to others very well.

I always thought front fogs were for the benefit of the driver, mine don't seem to do a lot.

Having front fogs on doesn't bother me, I think it looks stupid. You don't drive around with the interior light on. Well, unless you are out dogging. So why drive around with the front fogs on?

Also, on the subject of Xenons, I have been dazzled by these quite a lot recently. I do not think it matters wether the owner has fitted them or the factory. I think it's a case of all lights can dazzle the driver but Xenons dazzle 10x worse as they are so much brighter.

Finally, what's the deal with blue sidelights. I have seen a few chav mobiles with them, they seem to provide little to no light at all. That would be quite scary driving along some of the country lanes around here.

your "one cop" wouldn't even make a dent on the number of morons that simply don't know or don't care whether their lights are on.

99.9% of morotists don't use forums of any description.
taking things further i'd say it was a fair bet that way more than half the drivers in the UK either don't use the internet at all, or they do some shopping/maybe the odd email/ebay.

totally incorrect.
these numpties keep getting flashed by luminous yellow speed cameras that are concreted into the ground and are in the SAME LOCATION 365 days a year...and you think that the very same general public have enough common sense to turn their fogs off?
i beg to differ.
if they're too stupid to avoid getting points which will eventually result in a ban, then i somehow doubt they will put a higher priority on avoiding a £30 fine.

there's no doubt it'd raise a lot of money, but then the party line in here is always "a human being can use discretion".
make "your cop" hit everyone and that goes out the windown.
then you have the public outcry of "you put a guy through training school at a cost of xxx thousand pounds and all he's doing is catching drivers with their foglights on?"
i can see the headlines now.
never gonna happen and it's just not an important priority.

I've only been driving since November last year, but i've been blinded many a time since then and felt the urge to vent my utter disgust.

>> <<

I can't see the big deal with front fogs. I use them down rural roads because they highlight the sides of the road.

They don't blind me when people behind have them on.

If they are on with dipped beam they seem alright to me. If they are on with sidelights then they should be turned off! ;)

People have different sensitivity to light. Just because it doesn't blind you it doesn't mean you are not blinding majority. Your night vision and light sensitivity is clearly impared, you need extra lights from auxilary equipment for your everyday journeys, extremely bright light doesn't affect you, one would imagine you'd know when you become menace to others, and yet...

But then all headlights will occasionally glare, especially if the car is coming over the brow of a hill or similar. People just notice it more from Xenons becuase they are cool to hate at the moment.

I genuinely don't understand how you are getting dazzled by peoples foglights.

90% of them are small, at the bottom of the car bumper and pointed firmly towards the road. Do you have dinner plate sized sensitive eyes? Or drive around an area populated with cars fitted with Light bars?

Yes driving with front fogs in no fog is frowned upon by the law but frankly as most of the posts here seem to support it doesnt bother people. Perhaps its the fact that its cool to hate fog lights that makes you hate them so much.

MPVs / SUV's with Xeon actually are blinding.

I dont get dazzled by foglights, and I do use my front ones on country lanes at night, I think the opposing drivers should be more worried about me turning off my high beam in time!

The only things which dazzle me are rear fog lights on newish cars and BMW headlights!
