Foglight Morons

because they're unobservant.
they turn them on when they actually needed to then didn't realise they were still on when they weren't needed.
their mind was probably on something more important like this weeks neighbours sub-plot or at what point would they "deal or no deal"

Yes chaps, its what you've all been waiting for, OcUK 'People with foglights suck' Thread Number 34!

Now, I used to think people who had foglights on when it wasn't foggy did so becuase they were stupid chavs who thought it made their car look cool. Generally, every time you saw such a car, it was a crappy ricemobile with a stupid spoiler.

But these last few months, it's been different. It seems a growing number of normal, every day motorists see it get dark and think...

'OMG ***!!! IT BE DARK!! TURN EVERY LIGHT SWITCH IN THE ENTIRE CAR ON, QUICK!' and on go the foglights. I've even started to see BUSES with front foglights on in totally clear conditions, and there are just as many reps in Mondeos, mothers in Clios and old people in Yaris Versos driving around with their foglights on just becuase it's gone a bit dusky.

Why are these people so stupid?

I nearly got out of my car to knock on the window of the car I met coming down a single track hill who had to reverse out of my way to say TURN YOUR GOD DAMN FOGLIGHT OFF I CANNOT SEE A THING.

Firstly before i say the following comments, my fog lights never really come on because evan when its foggy ( has been the last few days ) i find my front fogs make very very little diffrence. So if i remember they go on, if i dont i dont . Recentley its been Stupidly foggy so ive had the rear one on a few times.

Why does it bother you so much, I like you see people with fogs on all the time, Chavs , New drivers , Old People , Mums etc etc but i never EVER blink an eyelid ! It just does NOT bother me, there simply not bright enough to " OMG IM BLIND " me let alone raise an eyelid. Maybe you have Super DUPER X RAY VISION which makes your eyes that extra bit sensitive.

I wouldent reccomend doing this, because one day you will come across some stupid thug who wont think twice about beating you black and blue ;)

Front foglights don't dazzle you, rear ones do. Why get so wound up about the front ones? If it's a front light and it dazzles you it's either a driving lamp or badly-aligned foglight.

I agree with akira , i find cars that have badly-aligned lights far worse than foglight problems or people who leave there fullbeams on around country lanes

I get flashed quite a lot, because of my front driving lights on my 205. they come on with the main beam, so people think I have my fogs on, altho they go off whenever i dip the beam!

yup got the same thing on my sunny. My mum ranted at me and wouldnt believe me until i took her outside and showed her

I used my rear fog last week, but front fogs did absolutely bugger all. But down my little lane full beam was even worse so i just switched back to dipped beams with front fogs.

No swearing

I've always noticed it not to be "chavmobiles" but that's probably because they all don't have foggies on base spec nova's etc.

The only commonality I've seen amongst drivers with foglights on (unecessarily) is they are also crap drivers who don't signal etc. and/or think they own the road and everyone else is just dieing to swerve out of their way. See X3/5, Range Rover, MPV's, BMW 'Salesmobiles' and a lot of Carina 'e's/Avensis cars.

foglights never really bothered me at all, maybe its because of the fact im a little higher up than most cars but its never bothered me at all

These ***** with their front fogs on all the time really **** me off too. I jsut try and ignore them, as nothing i do is going to change them, and will probably insite road range.

Would highly recommend adapting your post a bit, unless you like suspensions..... ;)

In one of my corrados i have to drive with my front spots on, not because i think it looks cool but that rados have **** front lights! they loose 2 volts between the battery and the lights resulting in a 'candle light' effect in front of the car.

On my other 2 rados they have a uprated headlight loom so dont need the fogs on, and soon the 3rd should be updated too. However, as my car sits quite low and because im aware of the problem ive made sure the spots cause as little blinding as possible.

Front fogs don't bother me at all - they arent bright or pointing up at you so no problems.....the rear on the other hand is annoyingly bright!!
I find people that leave full beam on or have badly adjusted lights are more annoying/dangerous - especially on country roads

I fully agree

Well don't, they are foglights. They dont give you any extra light anyway, just make the area right in front of your car brighter, you get no increased viewing range.

Turn them off. You blind some people coming towards you.

That made me lol, "Well don't!".

It's probably because it WAS foggy and people are just too damn careless to flick the switch to turn them off, or they are concerned we may get another bout of thick fog that could descend on them at any time, in seconds.

Why not wear sunglasses Fox?

I drive with my fogs on at night. Only on the M'ways mind. They light the roads up a fair bit more than my standard dim mk3 fiesta lights. Any one that moans about it for their sake should really take the long pole out of the bottom and get on with other things. If they're helping with lighting my path on the long drives home then I'll use them. I paid for them.

Front fogs aren't a problem - I often use mine when there's no moon light, every little helps.

It's badly aligned lights and 90% of the cars with Xenons that bother me.

I used to think that was the case but dont agree now. Prior to the recent fog bout this was as much a problem as ever, yet we had had no fog here for weeks.

They really do actually turn them on in clear conditions.

Almost as ridiculous at people who think that just becuase a foglight doesnt personally blind them, it must have course be the same for everyone..

TDS and Fox in disagreement shocker, lol.

seriously though, i think that no matter what reason we come up with, there will be some people who have their fogs on because of it.
but i honestly believe that the bulk of them simply don't even realise they're on.
a few days ago i'd been clothes shopping at my local superdooperhypercentre thing until around 815, basically around the time every driver on the road HAD to turn their lights on as you couldn't even read your own speedo easily it was so dark.

except for some noob in a beat-up old AX who was more than happy to plod along at approx 60mph without any lights at all for at least the few miles we shared a road.
i flashed him a couple of times before i passed him, then when i realised he still hadn't done anything i slowed to his speed and flashed my rear fogs at him a couple of times....and nothing!

so, he was either so stupid he didn't even realise what the problem was, or his car didn't have working lights in which case he was stupid enough to think it'd still be ok to use it in the dark.

it's people i tell you, they're a funny bunch.

I think this is an important factor, for I have never been blinded by fogs, headlights yes, but never fogs.
Same - they've never blinded me in the Mini or in the Jeep.

The lads in work drive with them on all the time and I've slagged them about it, but what more can you do...

execute their families, slash their tyres and cut their brake lines.

it always pays to have options :p

It depends on the type of foglight, some cars have small ones, others larger ones.

Nothing is more distracting when you are driving down a road at night and suddenly out of the distance comes a car with all the lights he can possibly find blaring right at you.

I put the front fog lights on it made pretty much no difference.. Better off turning the lights to side lights.
Please tell me you're not one of those muppets who drives in fog with just side lights? :)

Also bear in mind that front fogs serve a dual purpose - not only do they help you to see better, they help other people see you.
