Pilgrim57, what you got under the hood of that single core?

Have got fed up with being in or around cell86 for so long & reading this forum I decided to check out this SMP/Vmware malarky. Still can't get FahMon to work though:(
I didn't mean to cheat but I have been using both cores when SMP is running :o [about 80% cpu output]which is not all the time as I have BOINC work to finish. I have just finished my 4th unit.

Note to rich99million please move me to multi core on the single machine crunchers list, ta!

My 4600x2 is held back by the ram as it is only running not too stabily at 2618 MHz.uTorrent seems to cause device driver error/crash/reboot after 5, 6 or 12 hrs. Now if only I had a C2D cooled with liquid N2;) I could have really caused a rumpus.

Thanks to Rich for the news.
Nice tiffy Dunc - it'll be a few years before mine arrives.
Welcome to the newbies.

i notice i aint mentioned above...

WE're running SMP clients on C2D systems with Linux in VMware!

Happy now :p ;)

What pc spec is that computer please, I ask as soon ( month or 2 ) I will be speccing a server at approx £1500 ( no vat ) for work and I am wondering what the best spec is for crunching I could get.

Mines is a E6600 at 3.2ghz (9*355), I beleave concordes and unforgivens are E6600s around 3.4ghz

I've read of posts where the quad cores are hitting almost 30k a week running 4 smp clients in 2 vmware sessions with each core overclocked to 3ghz although I recon you would need 4 gig of ram to run that as I run two gig and with 2 large WUs each in a SMP session its pretty much all used up. I still think the quad cores are overpriced if the Q6600 dropped to just shy of £400 I recon it would be worth while as long as you use multi threaded applications.

Ooh a folding spec eh babyface? For 1500, tasty :D

Would have to be quad core tbh :p

Edit: looked into this a bit. On an American etailer you can get a dual xeon tyan board, 2 clovertown quad cores at 1.6ghz and 2gb of 5300 memory for, get this, $1200! That's £615!

8 cores!! For 615 quid!! Feel physically sick now...

Oh Billy... :D

spec me up then guys, best cruncher for £1500 plus vat, needs 3 hds ( 2 in raid mirrored with raid card, size unimportant - going for redundantcy not volume ), dvd drice and thats the essentials.

Its a server for 5 client pc's but nothing they run is to heavy, Word/Excel etc...

good cooling is a must as it can't be mega loud.
Onboard graphics is fine.

do your worst

AFAIK concorde is runing E6400 at 3.45 or something like that...
anyway im upgrading to 6600 hopefully going to clock it up to over 3.4!!!
so my score will go to 0 for a bit while i stress test.. unless i borrow someones machine and get a wu setup on there

Heeeee I can't wait to get my C2D :D

E6600
Scythe Ninja
GeIL PC2-6400CAS4 2x1GB
DS4

All waiting in my shopping basket for when the money comes through.

In a month or two I will be upgrading the Ninja to H2WOAH

As for my current rig, I have bagged myself not one, but TWO 1760 pointers! Each has a PPD of about 720, so next dump should be a goodun!

Get this in you :)

Qx6700, nice 680 mobo, 2gb geil, 3x 80gb, raid, 620w corsair, cnps9700. :D

Edit: woops, thats 1315 inc, only 1100 plus vat

Another edit: no graphics on that board, you'd have to get a budget board for that :o :p

Just as a guide that is my exact rig atm and my points arent doing too bad.

Im runnning the above in SMP with my X1900XT on to take up the additional slack in CPU time, although has been half term this week so PC been used a lot for other stuff, maybe next week i can push 15k.

Hopefully in the summer im getting water cooling so i can really push my E6600 :). Currently at 3.2Ghz but Im sure she will go faster!

Another great week for Team 10, nice to see even more SMP goodness and some serious points in the single crunchers league, i remember when i was having trouble matching Concorde's 6-7k a week and it wasnt that long ago!

I would pop 4 gig of ram if you want to run two vmware machines and 4 smp clients as they are ram heavy with the big WUs. With the spare cash I would probaly put a raptor in as the boot drive aswell, always good to have fast seek times on a servers application HD IMHO.

Hes defo got a E6600 just not 100% certain what speed its running at I know his is faster than mine, its certainly around 3.4ghz thinks its something like 8x420 or 8x430. (he uses a 8 multi rather than the 9 default)

where is he anyway *looks* cant see him anywhere..

hes running 435x8 iirc and its whipping my 6400 at 400x8

anyway upgrading to 6600 soon and get that clocked get me some more points :) ** honest.. that isnt the only reason im upgrading **

maybe..
