Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 15th February 2007

There doesn't seem to be a big drop for all the other teams so it can't be a stats issue...

Edit: We could see a drop with other teams once the stats finish updating.

Oooeer that's odd. Although it is probably just a glitch because if you look at the Team Overtake page everything looks normal.

My vmware client bombed out yestarday and it took me 24 hours to notice, not sure what happend XP was still running fine. I sadly never really read any of the error message before OK'ing it !! Restarted vmware and it was taken over a hour a step had to reboot the machine to get it back to normal, not easy when you are 150miles away from the box and forgot to add the rights to remote managment to allow a remote reboot.

I also noticed cob aswell as Unforgiven have been having trouble with his smp clients aswell may be the combined problems with a few machines caused the ppd to slow down. I certainly would have dumped 3500 points yestarday if my machine hadn't gone on its a**e

I dumped precisely zero points yesterday as my borgs were switched off on Friday afternoon and my own PCs were busy digesting a 2604 and 2605 which didn't dump until this afternoon.

...much to my delight old boy :D

Well, I've moved into 10th for the team, but down to 4th for the weekly dumpers. My main borg hasn't been on all week though........

As ever my lowly P4 farm bucks the trend and My ppd average is up above the 1k again :D

I did leave a few PC's on over the weekend so that accounts for the Wu's uploaded (unlike the triple 0 of last week) but as ever when there's a problem losting one 50ppd* Pc really makes very little differance

*most cruch at 100-150ppd but their only on 8/5 :o

Edit: Got the Home rig upto 3.0 too but am starting a tread over in the Oc section for some advice on what Voltage levels are save with Air cooling.

Anyone else here useing a 975x chipset and what Volts are you running?

I run my E6600 at 3.24GHz (360x9) on a P5W DH Deluxe at 1.4375 volts in bios (CPUZ and Speedfan say 1.420V) cooled with a Scythe Ninja. Core Temp says 57c (I'm not a fan of Core Temp), Speedfan says 41c, running VMware and 1 SMP client.

And neither of you know what I'm talking about :p

Not after cpu volts - my e6400 is at stock still.
I'm after the MCH voltages (Memory Controller Hub or northbridge to you :p )

Edit: Been doing some research and answered my own question... Other are saying that 1.6-1.65 is required to acheive 3.0-3.5 but my abit suffers a vdroop of .15-.2 on the northbridge.
so 1.75-1.85 in Bios would be needed (this is way to high for air cooling) and would kill the south bridge.

Looks as if I'm stuck at 2.8 untill I can rebuild my rig with AS5 and screws to upgrade it's passive cooling potential and maybe a wire or two to boost its voltage to 'bios reported' levels (not doing either untill I've had more sleep :o )

I haven't dumped anything since Friday :(

Having major problems with Ubuntu in VMWare atm.

Get posting man! We'll fix 'em good! Well, Billy will anyway :p

I think it's got to do with the extra 2gb I put in my machine at the w-end. I'm trying to find an overclock it's happy with.

Tho I have arranged to sell my Geil and then replace it with more OCZ at the w-end. I'm hoping things will settle down then.

And I almost missed it:o
SMP via ubuntu/VMware is working again, 1760 points due in another hour:D

My machines have lost a few 1,760 pointers over the last couple of days. They finish then just hang.... I have to reboot to get any response. Once the client reloads then the log errors out on the 100% completed unit and then deletes the work unit - no trace of it anywhere.

:(

I've got a E6600 running on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe at 3.2ghz (9x355) on default volts, runs at 48c full load in TAT/Core Temp.

Seems to be a good chip on default volts however it takes 1.575 volts to get it 100% stable at 3.6ghz and it runs too hot for continual 24 by 7 use (was around 61-63c at full load with a ninja heatsink and the fan at full pelt)
