Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 23rd November 2006

Pretty shocking that my entire farm is scoring less than a single PC now. 36th place sucks. :(

Done something about it though - SMP client up and running. 560 PPD will nearly double my current output - for as long as the WUs last anyway. :D

As usual, as soon as my back is turned, it all goes Pete Tong :(

Can't see what's happening as the rig I connect through is down. I don't know what it is - I made sure all rigs were stable before I left  The M1710 is on the rig with me but I haven't a clue about the rest.

Oddly enough, there seem to be no problems with the Rosetta rigs - my output on that project is pretty steady.

Better get used to it I suppose. Most of the farm is going in the local rag in preparation for moving in April/May (I've no intention of dragging all that lot with me). The plan is to sell off everything except the two C2Ds and the M1710. The C2Ds will be replaced when native quad chips are out and another two may be added but that's all off in the future.

Stan :)

Look what just came for me

All thanks to those lovely SMP WUs (*I love my mac*). Getting nearly 700ppd with that folding.

Thanks SiriusB you're a star!

Took over an hour to print
One last question then I should go to overclocking forum.
RAM dividers: on my mobo Asus A8N-SLi Premium just have speeds133,166,200,333,400 & 433 rather than being able to adjust by actual MHz. I've got RAm set to 400 but CPU-Z say its at 217 - same as CPU is that normal?

Thanks

With that board, the ram speed will be what you set it plus half of what you've added to the fsb.
So for example at 250 fsb and 133 ram speed the ram will be 133 + 25.

The only thing i can't remember is if thats doubled or not i.e its 200 max or 400 max. I think both it and cpuz show it before its doubles, so 200 max. Which means you need to change you ram speed to keep it below 200.

wooot nice tiffie Stan!!!

shame about the problems with the folding rigs and very odd that the Boinc machines are working fine
I'm sure it'll make the decision to sell them off a lot easier to stick with though :)

Thanks :)

I have to sell them really, I don't fancy lugging that lot halfway across the country.

I will build the farm up again slowly with quad cores once their reasonably priced but that's a little way off in the future. I should be able to get a similar output to the old farm with 4 Intel quad cores - which will take up a lot less space and use considerably less power (I'll have to pay for my own leccy when I move :( ).

That's the worst news I've heard in a while. Best for the environment, mind, but who cares about that. Humans > Environment :D

Cheers for the warning, though I've been expecting it to be honest. Looks like I'm going to be page 2 for a short time :(

Easily 900+ ppd (with the right wus), but the comps are only on a few hours a day :(

Whats the story Stan, why are you moving? Company couldn't stomach the bill anymore? :p

You could always sell the rigs to someone who has free lecy, i think someone round here has it free at uni or something.

You should commission SB118 to set you up a used oil burning lister and generator for some free power.

If you'd ever been to Peterhead, you'd know the answer to that question :p

I just want to move somewhere a bit closer to civilisation. I also want a place to muself - because the flat in Peterhead is a company one, people can come and go at any time and although I get the place to myself most of the time, I never know when there will be other people there.

It's been good having free digs for the last couple of years but I've got to the stage where I feel the need to move on.

Stan :)

Can't say i have, thats a good thing by the sounds of it. :p
At the end of the day, Life > folding tbh.

I'd get pretty annoyed pretty quickly if i had a flat that people could wander in and out of as they pleased.
Good luck with the move, hope it all goes smoothly. :)

Didn't get to borg the fx55 in the end :( It's only really switched on when someone is playing a game or doing work on it, so i left it.

I can understand why bigstan is moving out of peterhead, been there a few times ;)

Bigstan where are you planning on moving to then if you don't mind me asking?

He makes a good point...

Yes good luck Stan, hope it goes to plan (rhyme  ). Sounds like a good decision to me, not taken lightly either. Fold as if you're life depends on it in the mean time though! When are you going to have free leccy again!?
