Football 5th-6th Feb 2011 **SPOILERS**

The problem fans have with Referees isn't that we don't like them, it's just they are absolute rubbish, their consistency is **** poor. The two of them in mid week didn't even know the offside rule. I can't see why players shouldn't criticise them when they get stuff wrong so regularly.

A muppet loses his cool and starts ragging players round so someone else should be sent off? Lol good sir. Lol.

Watching motd. Shocking start.

Tough tackle by Barton, not bad though, Diaby was a tit for throwing a hissy.

Clear penalty first one, defender a moron.

Nolan/keeper thing was handbags. Anyone who thinks otherwise need to replace their girl parts and man up. They were both, rightly, booked.

Best goal onside.

Second penalty was 50/50 some would give it others wouldnt. Rosicky a moron for swinging his arms like a muppet.

Tiote wonder goal!!! :D

Nolan could have won it at the end :p

VP was clearly offside.

Looking at it it's just more Arsenal fans moaning for nothing, the referee decisions were fine and the few bad both balanced out. Wengers **** tactical decisions let you down. You need a leader more than anything else. We should have won it at the end :D great game and I guess both teams got what they deserved.

.... wait a second....

You're either a toon supporter or Phil Dowd but after that display, I suppose they are all the same ;)

What a ridiculous attempt at a challenge by Robinson when Wigan scored their second. That would have been a straight red had he touched the player at all.

Because its denying a goal-scoring opportunity in the first case?

Same way a trip is a yellow most times, unless you're the last man.
You missed the point.

Cheating to deny a goal/goalscoring oppoturnity is worse than cheating to create a goal/goalscoring oppotunity?

Ignore the Scholes incident today; there's been several times where players have punched the ball into the net and if caught, they get booked. Yet if a defender handles the ball to stop a goal he gets sent off.

Surely both offenses should result in the same punishment.

Awesome day for the neutral, stunning comeback by Newcastle but then surprise of the day with Wolves beating Man Utd, fun fun fun :D This season should go right down to the wire, hadn't realised how tough Man Utd's run-in is compared to l'Arse:

Man City, then Chelsea away and Liverpool away consecutively, then at the back-end Arsenal at the Emirates then Chelsea at home again the week after.

Arsenal OTOH have Liverpool & Man Utd both at the Emirates and that's it out of the top 4/5 - being 4 points behind they have to be considered as genuine title contenders with everything to play for looking at that fixture list.

Love it how you started the thread saying how you were a neutral just watching the match etc etc. You're as partisan as the rest of us in here :p

I have a fairly controversial belief and that is that officials should earn respect, not be given it for the sake of being an official. The reason why I say this is that there are a lot of poor officials out there, take Graham Poll or Phil Dowd as examples. Believe me, these 2 should never be respected.

Call it unsporting, but I'd never shake their hand, ever.

I think there should be no chat back. Only the Captain or outfield captain should be allowed to talk to the ref. Swearing should be yellow carded straight away. But I think the refs need to be held accountable for their mistakes. Also standards need to be established, every ref needs to know what action should be taken for what decision. Drop-balls need getting rid of amongst other things.

When did I say that? I love to watch Arsenal as they are fairly exciting to watch and are often involved in memorable games, especially against London rivals. You can't deny that. I still feel the better team should always win a match though. I feel I'm very neutral, if not, very fair and honest on how I view games and decisions.

Care to argue against?

I love the way that some people are calling us title challengers. Today's game, is in fact a small example of what will happen this season, and what has happened about 4 or 5 times under Wenger:

Get to a good position.
Get screwed over.
Concede some goals.
End up in a worse position.

The remarkable thing is how you're only 4 points off the top with a decent enough run-in despite that inevitably happening :p

i.e. today was get to a good position, get screwed over, concede goals, end up in a worse position, Man Utd balls it up and you end up 1 point closer to the top than you were at the start of the weekend :p

1// It's a tough area and the reason why is because I don't feel the captain should always have to march up and get involved just to whistle in to the officials ear if he is wrong. A player might have been fouled where his team mates and the official where no where to be seen. My personal belief is that the official should be approachable to everyone on the field.

2// Swearing is a bit of a hit and miss. In the moment you can be extremely frustrated, especially when it turns out the official has made a poor decision and you're the one copping it.

3// I definitely agree that officials need to be held accountable. It's a job, if they **** up, they need to put their hand up and apologise or even rectify the situation. Officials should be shamed for poor performances like players are, not wrapped up in cotton wool.

Well constructed post though and I respect your opinion and values here.

Still think they should just mike up the refs like in rugby - it gives a great insight - not to mention you hear the refs a) explaining their decision and b) yes, even apologising sometimes when they get it wrong.

Bonus points for listening to the scummy footballers shout, swear and act like spoilt children on live TV, doubt it'd be too long before commercial pressure from above made them behave and act like adults.

It has been an absolutely crazy day of football that's for sure. I don't think anyone really expected bottom-of-the-table Wolves to end United's unbeaten run, nor that Newcastle would fight back from four-nil down to earn a point.

Gomes is far too prone to mistakes to be a top keeper imo, unless he can cut them out. Made too many so far this season.
