Football 5th-6th Feb 2011 **SPOILERS**

Another poor away display - that defeat has been coming. Imo the problem has been when teams don't park the bus versus UTD (ie: when they are at home) our midfield is shown up for the mess that it is. At one point today Wolves had made something like 30 more passes than us, which is pretty shocking. I can't help but think SAF has to take a lot of blame for this - MU have been relatively weak here for years, probably since Scholes/Keane at their best. Our success has been in spite of our CM's at times.
I would prefer we give some football to youngsters like Pogba, they can't do any worst than certain seniors.
Another problem is being reduced to a single player whose capable of playing left sided midfield with any effectiveness. When that player is nearly 40, it's an even bigger problem and it's no real surprise to see him struggle today after playing so much of late. SAF knew Park/Valencia would be unavailable but chose to gamble on the position by not bringing anyone in.

Still, despite how poor we were I find it rather annoying to see so many comments about how lucky we have been to have gone unbeaten for so long.
Because for the most part, we haven't. That's not to say our footballs been particularly great because clearly it's been average at times. But we have only really looked like losing once or twice so far this season and in terms of goals or penalty's going our way that shouldn't to prevent the loss, I can't think of many. No, we had gone unbeaten because we have a very decent defence, some potent weapons in attack and above all a solid collective team spirit that kept on believing despite poor displays. Those are values few other teams have.

Plenty of coverage of Diaby doing something stupid but once again MOTD edit out Rooney petulantly kicking out at an opponent and getting a yellow, doesn't even merit a mention evidently. Also not shown was Giggs only getting a talking to for deliberately kicking Doyle on the shins after play had been stopped. Are the BBC still sucking up to Fergie to try to get him talking to them again?

Might be because the replay showed he did nothing of the sort ;) That was a horrendous dive, it looked awful live but he didn't touch him in the replay, barely made contact trying to block the clearance.

Giggs' was retardedly bad though admittedly, can only assume the ref missed it.

I have no idea how Giggs didn't get a straight red, Doyle was being a pratt and should have gotten a yellow for time wasting but Giggs didn't mistime a tackle to get the ball, Doyle was moving stupidly slow, he was frustrated and ran over and kicked him, flat out, its a straight red.

As others have suggested, its not so much the bad decisions, mistakes happen, if ref's owned up to them people would understand, its when firstly they know they've got it wrong and won't change their minds, the big one at the world cup comes to mind, they show the goal on the big screen the ref/lino see and see its clearly offside yet still give the goal, ridiculous. Ref's with some actual balls would have not given the goal, would have cited the quick replay and they might have got in trouble but it could have been one of those key moments that led to everyone decided replays were the way to go.

Its when refs get things wrong, and won't change their minds when its clear as day, or when they simply decide the same tackle/incident is a yellow card or nothing for one player, while the other team gets a red card for the same thing.

I love the way that some people are calling us title challengers. Today's game, is in fact a small example of what will happen this season, and what has happened about 4 or 5 times under Wenger:

Get to a good position.
Get screwed over.
Concede some goals.
End up in a worse position.

you are currently 1 point better off than you were yesterday morning - although injuries/ red card may be telling

Im REALLY ******** about the Wolves result, but that was a mere blip (considering Utd's utterly woeful away performances all season) compared to being 4-0 up and ending up drawing the game (I was kinda hoping for that Nolan last minute strike to go in, but even Arsenal dont deserve that......quite lol)

edit - Just out of interest is there any reason why penalties shouldnt be given same way as yellow / red cards (ie several misdomeaners and they all the totted up). Utd really should have got a penalty for all the fouls being committed by Wolves (a shoulder barge on Vidic, and then being hugged in the next corner (by the same player), and several other off the ball .....tangles).

It would also be nice to see the attacker given the benefit of the doubt in very close calls - except every single time the defending team get the nod

With the amount spent by Man United and Chelsea I really have felt the title should be their on a regular basis. Love watching Arsenal. I suppose for Arsenal to challenge on a regular basis with a cheaper squad gives them some satisfaction.

It's almost as if Wenger has overclocked his squad (if that makes sense). I know it's not a money contest and that money doesn't equal the title, but if you finish in the top 2, 3, 4 on a regular basis with a cheaper team, do you really feel that bad. I'd feel worse if my club had bought so many players and didn't get the title (not a troll, seriously).

I'm actually really fond of Everton too.

Chelsea just spent in one window what Utd have spent in the last 3 seasons (plus at a ratio of 2 players to about 6 lol)

Not exactly an equal comparison

Arsenal have probably spent more than Utd in the last 2 or 3 years in total...hmm ok maybe not incl Berba lol but its still pretty close)

Does it really count if season after season Arsenal drop away in Feb / March without fail? Wenger has the money, he just refuses to use it - yet if he spent £15m on a couple of experienced EPL players Arsenal would be a REAL threat for the whole season . It COULD be argued its pretty stupid NOT to spend that relatively small amount

Awww that's brutal. He's got a good radar for picking talent though :P

I still feel United have spent more overall, as have Chelsea but feel free to correct me. Everyone spends money in their own way. Personally although I disagree with being extremely tight, Wenger knows when to put his chips down and has often bought better than worse.

I've got this strange feeling that one day the transfer market will burst and everyone will become insanely cheap. Kind of like a housing market. I know there are great players out there who are worth a lot, but the prices are insane.
