Football and the Coronavirus

Nm.

Baz is right, but there is a back up studio ready to go at Isleworth that can be used if they cannot do it at the stadium for any reason.

Any updates on when European football will resume?
The plan is for it to take place in August, after domestic seasons have been completed. Exact details still haven't been confirmed because of complications around travel restrictions but there are some reports that UEFA want to hold the final rounds in a single city/country over a short period.

They've confirmed matches will allow 5 subs, not sure if they're using the same thing of only allowing them to use subs in 3 slots that Bundesliga is using though.
What I found strange is they are also allowing you to have NINE players on the bench. So more players in a matchday squad than before the pandemic, just seems a bit odd.

Will be interesting to see how clubs utilise these subs, maybe we'll see more tactical switches at halftime.

Was musing earlier whether they should consider fake crowd noise on TV like you get in computer games, I doubt they will because people would start taking the ****. Probably take a bit of getting used to, tackles flying in and you can hear what people are shoutng rather than just an incensed crowd, balls going out for a corner and no roar to cheer the team on, wonder if that will increase the chance of people losing concentration.

I think the idea around having extra subs to choose from is just to make life a little easier for clubs. Everybody acknowledges that the risk of injury in the current situation is higher and by having more subs to choose from, if an injury occurs, it's more likely that you'll have a like for like replacement on the bench.

And fake crowd noises have been agreed. Both BT and Sky have confirmed that viewers will be given the option of choose between the added audio or not. BT used it during the Bayern game at the weekend and I have to say it wasn't too unrealistic. It was certainly better than no crowd noise anyway. Another thing they done during the Leverkusen - Bayern game was have flags with pictures of supporters across the bottow dozen or so rows of seats which again it wasn't too bad and certainly better than empty seats.

^OK interesting, I think with modern AI / ML techniques you could probably get a pretty good algorithm to decide on crowd noise, are they doing that or just having a producer twiddling dials?

City would have to lose then a win would win the title vs Everton. And of course it's a replica, a small one at that. It's probably just an advert from some factory that is or will be flogging them on ebay to fans for £100+.

I can't say I was massively paying attention to tell whether the audio changed when sides were attacking etc but just casually watching it did feel fairly normal.

It is very small indeed thinking about it. I’ve stood about 2 foot away from a real one and it’s quite an imposing sight indeed. Over 3 feet tall.

I'm pretty sure a producer was doing the sounds, they triggered some booing when a player was fouled and the commentator commented on the producer not being impressed by that one.
