Football and the Coronavirus

It's now been confirmed that both League 1 and 2 have voted to end their season using the above method.

And on the day the EFL have relegated clubs on PPG, a French court has just blocked relegations (on ppg) from Ligue 1. I'm not sure the decision in France could be easily transferred here though as the EFL clubs voted on and agreed to these actions, which I don't believe was the case in France - iinm the French FA made the decision regarding how seasons would end and that promotions and relegations would go ahead.

Peterborough fans aren't happy but it's kind of understandable because if the season had carried on they were looking like good candidates for automatic, either them or Oxford I would have said.

Lol!

Although I said earlier in the thread I wasn't really missing football, I am starting to look forward to the season restarting next week. In a funny sort of way I'm glad it's behind closed doors because I'm not travelling to London at the moment anyway so I'd feel I was missing out if the option to attend matches was there (I typically attend all midweek games after work).

I read Sky has some sort of video conference app/feature for fans to chat during the game, I guess making it seem a bit more like watching a game in the pub. No idea whether that will work, ordinarily I would've said it would seem awks AF but with the way things are nowadays with nobody meeting up in person anyway it might actually work out OK.

Well that’s us all nicely prepared for Man City next week. Rounded off preparations with a 3-2 home defeat to the mighty Brentford

City will be ******** themselves I’m sure.

Much will depends on City's approach to the end of the season. Being secure in the top 4 and having the CL to prepare for in August, they might treat the next 6 weeks as a pre-season which might give Arsenal a better chance.

Prior to the postponement I was all but certain that we'd break City's 100 point record but now I'm not so sure. As soon as the League is in the bag then I can see Klopp rotating the squad a lot, making sure we're 100% prepared for the start of next season.

I feel he will do same perfect chance to get a minamino fit and in sync with test of team but also get Elliot games.

Gave Trent a rest and let Williams etc play

I'm a Tranmere fan and we have been royally shafted by PPG, 3 wins on the bounce and 3 points off safety with a game in hand and we get voted out the league. It seems crazy that teams can vote to end the season but then carry on playing in the playoffs.

We have no idea if the club are going to challenge it or not but as the expulsion is going to cost us £1 million and with no fans being able to attend games I would be surprised if we have the money to.

Let’s not start an argument, just asking for opinions, what do you think of the Premier leagues decision to replace all player names on shirts with Black Lives Matter for the first 12 games of the restart.

Personally, I think it’s a bit far. If there was a precedent I’d understand, but this has never been done in the history of the premier league. There must be better ways to promote BLM.

I don’t mind tbh as it’s just the first weekend really with the 2 games on the Wednesday before thrown in, any further would have taken the **** though TBH, I’m sick of hearing about it TBH as far as I’m concerned all lives matter which is what they should be going with.

Why is it too far? I'm personally not sure why anybody would be against it. It's not going to be a prolonged campaign, it's going to be one round of fixtures, just like the kick it out shirts that get worn once per year and more recently we've seen a number of PL clubs do things on Holocaust nemorial day.

I think football is a great tool for battling racism - I can't recall the exact details but a study found that anti muslim hate crimes in Merseyside fell by a significant percent in the period from when Salah joined Liverpool. Footballers are often idolised by supporters, if they can do something to help battle racism then they should.

Iirc, the kick it out shirts are worn during warm up and before games, not during. They will also be wearing a BLM badge on the match shirts. Personally, I think the badge is enough.

The NHS are only getting a badge for all the amazing work they’ve done during the crisis. If anything I’d rather NHS be used instead.

this is why it should be changed to “all lives matter”, there is massive racism at the minute against the Chinese(for obvious reasons) but people seem to forget that and also the prejudice against Muslims, Jews and others. Don’t get me wrong what happened to him should never happen especially by those that are supposed to protect us, but people only seem to get outraged when it happens to an African American but ignore it when it’s other races and religions.

They should just remove all politics from sport, it's reached a point where politics is pervading everything and gets on my nerves. I and presumably most black people watch sport to get away from all of that negative stuff, I don't think black people want to be reminded all of the time about every racist incident they've ever experience whilst trying to enjoy a game of football. Get rid of the minutes silence that is before almost every match as well, if people knew the person who had died and truly cared they would pay their respects in private, put a tribute to them in the match day programme if they want people to know about them.

I agree that "all lives matter" most of the stuff that panders to individual groups whilst pretending to care is very divisive.

I think they should have had something to do with the NHS printed on the back instead

The BLM movement in everyday things now is getting stupid

Remember the ban and fines for the Home Nations for wearing poppies on their shirts. But as soon as it's Black Lives Matters, no-one in football dare speak out against it. Double standards at its finest. Especially as there is not supposed to be any political slogans....
