Football Manager 2006 hints and tips needed

Form and player morale play a massive part in FM2006. Make sure you're patched up too, fixes a few niggly bugs. Don't drop players if they're playing well, even if a supposedly better player comes back from injury or suspension or whatever. Give your players credit where it's due - i often find saying "well done" to all the team and "fantastic" to one member of the team that has played an 8 or higher works really well.

I've managed to get Ipswich to be Premiership champions and Champions league champions in <5 years, which I was really please with.

Managed to get him straight away. Got work permit on appeal. Only problem is I had to wait a year since he was on loan at Boca.

I think the permit's are a lot more random on uncapped players in this version. I've tried to get ahold of that South African Lebohang Mokeona but my appeal is always rejected but I know plenty of people who have managed to get permits for him.
Ah tis interesting. When did you appeal for a work permit? When you bid for him or a year later when his loan ended? If you appealed just before he transferred I could understand that, if you appealed when you made you original bid, I don't get that.

Bit of a miracle there, they need to hire you :p
I do make sure to give them credit when it's due :) Although I hadn't considered form so I'll bear that in mind.

sounds interesting:p i used to play the champ manager games quite abit (i hate football but i really enjoyed the managing side of things:o) but i stopped when all the name changes happened, football manager is champ manager now? and champ manager is something else? this is all confuzing :(

Iirc....
Creators of original Champ Manager left Eidos, Eidos got to keep the name (Champ Manager) and got some other people in to create the new Champ Managers which are rubbish.
Creators of original Champ Manager go to Sports Interactive/Sega and create Football Manager which is much better :D

That's roughly it, I've probably got the odd name wrong.

Yeah, if there was any justice in this world, Football Manager would still be called Champ Man, and the new CM would be called something entirely different, because that's what the games are really, it's just silly copyright that stops them.

As for the comment about morale, it really does make a massive difference to your players in this version. I've been playing as Stevenage in the conference for half a season now, and I've been tearing it up when I start winning (since all players hit good+ morale), but when I lost a game at the end of my first streak, morale dropped drastically and I started losing to teams I really should have been beating.

I'd offer more advice, but I'm not really used to this version yet. If you register on the forums over at SIGames, there's forums for every conceivable part of FM, and a bunch of stickies full of decent players to sign. :)

Just a quick tip, if you wander into the off topic section of the si forums life is little differant than these forums. Great place and some fun times to be had but beware if you stroll in and post something daft straight off the bat you will probably be mauled to death. :p

José Mourinho always tries to play mind games with me, at which point I tell him to concentrate on his own team, or whatever other neutral comment there is. It's seemed to work quite well with my team's performances against them.

Just to chuck in a highly recommended buy, especially with a low-ish budget, Vicente Sanchez, of Toluca. Versatile, and scores and creates goals. He's done so in every game I've started so far

Always scout players that you think might have a hard time getting a work permit, even if you can see their stats. The new game takes into account what your scouts say when offering a work permit....

or so ive been told!

Really should have set my game to the full database :o Losing out on so many players.
Classy sig btw Doohickey :)

:) Thanks

Meh, I don't think my pc can actually handle the full database (and by that I mean I can go and make a cup of tea/bake a cake/build a house between loading screens- maybe that's a good thing :p ), but I have it on that anyway, I keep hearing about hidden gems (or as my friend calls them all, 'diamonds in the rough' :D ) that I couldn't find when I had a smaller db on.

Another tip (which might sound pretty obvious) is to hire plenty of coaches, and get as many stars as possible for your training regimes (many people, myself included tend to neglect this aspect). And I have no idea what aspect this may have on actually improving the team, but once in a while declare your interest in a big name player, whether you really are interested or not, it will raise your ambition stats and the fans will like you more. And what daz mentioned earlier about not dropping players who are in form, even if they've been used as backups for injured first teamers, I think that's quite important.

Besagno is great prospect for the future. He is an American DM, and you can pick him up for pretty cheap.

If you've got some money, buy Chevanton he is a goal machine.

I started off with charlton and managed to finish 9th at best in 3 seasons :(. But I was sucessful ;). Man Utd approached me while they were 16th place in October 2008 and I won the title that very season!!

Just won the European cup so I'm happy
Finished 10th in the league which wasn't bad going but want to do better next season :D

Just got hold of Besagno. And I'm trying to raise the funds for Carlton Cole although currently Pablo Vitti is doing well as a back up goal scorer to Owen.

is my current line up for the new season. Think they seem reasonably good.....fingers crossed at least ;)

He was a great player but all the clubs were after him with my game too. Then he got unhappy and started demanding to leave. :(
Made a fortune out of him though so that helped with a few purchases. Just have to hope it's not a mistake :o

Looks good. N'Zogbia would be handy on your left though, also Emre is pretty much brilliant in the right setup as is Parker as an anchor man(and captain), just where Sivok is playing for you.

Pazzini is a class act, good foil for wor Owen.
