Football Manager 2006 hints and tips needed

Players i'd seriously consider if you can afford are:

Vincent Kompany (DC)
Lukas Podolski (AM/FC)
Gianni Zuiverloon (DRC)
Nuri Sahin (DM)
Hedwiges Maduro (DC/DM)

Their all youngsters and Sahin/Kompany/Podolski will become Hot Prospects if you play them enough ;)

I don't know if this information will help at all, but it's my best result on FM2006 so far and I can't stop smiling :D

FYI this is my 3rd season with Stoke and our first in Champions League, WOW!

That's wicked, nice one - especially so early on in the game too!!!

I seem to get some crazy results in Europe too.

Last season in the Champions League semi-finals, we beat Inter 5-2 away at the San Siro, then beat them 4-0 back at Portman Road. I like you play with two attacking midfielders on the wings. :)

My first choice strikers are Kerlon and Cissé. Other notable players include Guarin, Anderson, Van der Vaart, Cassano, Dalibor Stevanovic (club captain for 8 years now!), Van den Borré, Didier Zokora, Michael Dawson.

is guiza any good ive just signed him for 5.5mil but got to wait for the transfer window to open. also im in need of a good centre back any reccomendations?

Guiza is the man! I got him for 800k at the end of season 1. He'll be worth it mate. Centre backs if you can get them cheap look at Zat Knight, Chris Riggott, Ant Gardner, Andrea Barzagli, Micah Richards,

If you are near the start of the game try and nab Stuart Price from Crewe, he is a 16year old striker who by the age of 18 will be one of the best in the game.

I've been a long time player of Champ now, over 10 years, but I haven't got FM2006 yet. Threads like this remind me of one of the annoying things.... a lot of it is just about buying up these known "gem" players on the cheap etc, it's not really down to skill, just knowledge of what players to buy.

I'd like to see the game take a more diverse approach where there are fewer guarenteed good players, maybe make their attributes more flexible or something like that. Make things like scouting (or even luck) more important when finding new players, make each game you play be different. Yeah, I know you can use a random player database, but that takes some of the fun out of it. I still want current known superstars etc, just less of the teenagers from timbuktu with 9999999999 potential who you can buy for a pittance and then get 10+ years service out of at the top level.

There are few of the 'Gem' players in FM2006, but a good player is a good player at the end of the day, but believe me when I say that Fm2006 requires much more time and effort spent on training and tactics than the players you have in your team. It's not like on the CM games when you buy 1 or 2 decent players, come up with 1 formation and thats it, FM2006 is far more in-depth requiring you to change training often to keep your players reaching potential, forcing you to experiment with tactics as you may need to change formation 2-3 times a match to counter-act what the AI is doing. It's not like the super-easy CM games

i have to disagree with this, i started with leicester playing the 4-4-2 and got promoted the first season the next season kept the same 4-4-2 and finished mid table in the prmiership currently half way through 3rd season and im 6th and only a few weeks ago changed the training from the default

Up to 6th in the league now in my second season with a few months to go.
Chairman's happy with me at least :D Although I've been extremely injury plagued this season :( Owen's under performing too with most of my goals coming from Pazzini.
Besagno's been doing brilliantly for a young player though.

Pfft, you call that injury worries? Few years ago my strikeforce was decimated by concurrent injuries to Del Piero, Crespo, Morientes, Trezeguet and Vieri, with Owen suspended to boot:
