For the Grammar Nazis

you do need to be careful though. i remember taking the pee out of someone and later found out they were dyslexic (why is dyslexic such a weird word to spell lol)

Another nonsense illness. They just need to try harder, and people need to stop making excuses for thick people.

I'm rubbish at drawing, I haven't got an illness any more than someone who is dyslexic.

That's 2 extremes really. I can understand it when using a phone, as you've got a tiny keypad and lets face it, it's a pain to type on. There's no excuse when you've got a full keyboard in front of you, and it doesn't take any more effort to type correctly than not to.

I disagree. Apart from my original post, all my replies in here have been typed on my phone. It's just a matter of looking over your post before hitting reply

This would be appropriate here

However, I do agree with you.

Oh, you went there.

I agree though.

Dyslexia is a well acknowledged thing, it's not really an "illness" though, my brother is dyslexic and he scored the highest on his uni course in IT, hardly because he was dumb was it?

I've heard Dyslexia described as "another way of looking at things" for example, where I live there is a market area called "The Moor" when my brother was younger he saw the sign and read it as "The Room" lol

goof up with autocorrect

Don't get me started on ******* autocorrect!

I accidently sent my girlfriend a message and well, basically it went like this

Amy: Plans for tonight?
Me: Dunno, Sex?
Amy: Oh yeah? with who
Me: Emma

I meant to type "Amy" How the hell "Amy" autocorrects to "Emma" I know no idea!

Needless to say I didn't get sex that evening, or for the next week

I'm not saying you shouldn't make the effort when using a phone, more that I can understand/sympathise when punctuation etc. isn't used correctly, as the effort required to type using a keypad or touchscreen is significantly higher than when using a keyboard, for example having to hold a key/button down rather than just push/touch it completely breaks the flow of typing - fine for short messages, but when writing longer posts it's very frustrating! (for me at least ;))

He's dumb and/or lazy when it comes to English.

It's an excuse to cover up people being bad at something.

No it isn't Rob, My dad has it too, it's an been well acknowledged that Dyslexia exists and can be passed on to kids

My dad - a very successful and wealthy man who owns his own electricial business, not lazy at all, he is Welsh though so that could explain it.

My mum got really high marks in English at school and I'll freely admit I am just lazy sometimes lol, but my mum and I have always been better at written english than my brother or dad, yet born of them are better are technical/hands of stuff or "man stuff" lol

I have to agree. There is WAY too much "he has something wrong with him" going on in schools nowadays. it is impossible for someone to be just naughty or stupid (as they were in my day).

A kid a my wives school has been diagnosed with Autisum, but a guy with an autistic child spent 10 minutes with him and said he is not autistic he is just naughty! My wife and the TA try and make him "set off" for instance changing his seat, taking his pens, changing lessons etc and he does not react at all. A real autistic would not be able to cope with that.

If someone is awful at maths, why is there no special 'illness' for those people?

It's the same thing. It's just an excuse. Your dad and brother are awful at English, they are not ill. They are just bad at something.

I'll agree its not an illness or a disability that stops them living their life, the way that being Autistic does.

Like I said, my brother finished highest in his class at Uni, despite being dyslexic, so it obviously isn't a massive thing. The Uni bent over backwards to help him though, he was given a PDA and a computer/printer to work on and I could never understand why he got all that stuff because he didn't need it.

They even told him to go to a different room to sit his exams and gave him extra time (he didn't go to a different room in the end, he sat his exams with everyone else, and didn't need the extra time)

So I'm in no doubt it exists, but actually calling it a disability or it having a big impact on someones learning ability I do disagree with. Dyslexia is just a word they use for someone who has difficulty with spelling and reading. It doesn't mean they're stupid or lazy

So yeah, it exists, but it doesn't mean that dyslexic people should be given any special treatment for it
