For the Grammar Nazis

The only thing that annoys me is something that I have seen quite often recently- "that peaked my interest"

Actually, it doesn't really annoy me, but I always feel I should point it out.

Point out it's piqued not peaked?

It doesn't bother me too much, the message is more important than how it's presented. It's when you get overly chavved up spelling that winds me up. I always use have, but I don't really care about the difference between 'have' and 'of' because I know what they mean.

Saying that, I still take the mickey out of mistakes.

Personally, I think it's those who can't see through spelling and grammar mistakes that are the stupid ones.

Take me as an example - I generally present my posts in an easy to read fashion and I'm far from stupid. Yet I'm dyslexic, so there will be some words spelled phonetically (I just retyped spelt -> spelled and am still not certain which is correct).

In a perfect world, both would be spot on of course. We don't live in a perfect world.

But of course, when writing something formal - I proof read many times before it goes out.

EDIT: Plus, with the prevalence of the internet - there are a lot of Americanisms coming out of British mouths / fingers - this doesn't bother me either, it's quite understandable.

So I'm in no doubt it exists, but actually calling it a disability or it having a big impact on someones learning ability I do disagree with. Dyslexia is just a word they use for someone who has difficulty with spelling and reading. It doesn't mean they're stupid or lazy

So yeah, it exists, but it doesn't mean that dyslexic people should be given any special treatment for it

It's actually a bit more than that - it's a mis-communication between the left and right sides of the brain.

One problem I suffered from, studying Physics... I see equations as images and they're referred to by name in exams. Without reasonable context - it could be awkward to link those two together.

Other than that, no real effect (compared to normal) besides spelling mistakes... However, it is holding me back from my full potential if I didn't suffer from it.

Another one that really winds me up is people who put the £ after the number instead of before it, like this: 10£.

Why would you do that?

WHY?

I have to agree. There is WAY too much "he has something wrong with him" going on in schools nowadays. it is impossible for someone to be just naughty or stupid (as they were in my day).

A kid a my wives school has been diagnosed with Autisum, but a guy with an autistic child spent 10 minutes with him and said he is not autistic he is just naughty! My wife and the TA try and make him "set off" for instance changing his seat, taking his pens, changing lessons etc and he does not react at all. A real autistic would not be able to cope with that.

*cough* ADHD *cough* :)

they were just hyperactive and naughty when i was young. or known as curtain swingers after a mate of mine kept swinging from curtains. nothing wrong with him, he was just spoilt and badly behaved.

back to school for you mate.

CD's means something belongs to the aforementioned CD.

actually there is a numerical version of dyslexia.

It really annoys me when people don't start sentences with capital letters too.

Can't believe that no one has mentioned 'pacific' when they mean 'specific' :o

The one that I get on a daily basis is 'the amount of cv's that we have today..'

CVs - plural!!! GRrr!

Then there is the people who don't change their Word set up to English: UK and come out with caliber..

omg the other one I saw the other day is 'agency's' (again meaning plural).

*cries*
