I'd agree with $loth here for a beginner, but make it a clean bulk. Tbh I've always felt that you shouldn't really need to cut within the first year but just clean your diet up and you'll notice a world of difference. But that's what's worked for me but my diet has always been very good.

Can you avoid the week off if you take say 4/5 days off a couple of times through a 3 month cycle or is the full 7 days really essential?

Or would that just delay it but the week of will be needed? I know it's needed eventually but right not i'm not in the mood for stopping.

Currently going on a bulk for 9 months, and doing a 3 month cut afterwards, this is how im going to do it from now on. I will watch my bodyfat levels but not be overly concerned with them, and just purely focus on size and strength for this 9 months. Weighing in at 17st 4 at the moment, still small, but not 3 months in yet, so bit over 6 months to go.

So thats how im going to be bulking from now on.

Had a week off, went to Spain, soaked up a load of sun, diet out the window, booze everyday, it was great!

Squatted on Monday and today the DOMS are bad, really really bad!! :( :(

That is all

I shoulder pressed the 45s for 8 reps today but my left arm failed when I attempted the 50s. I'm switching to the barbell next week and hope to nail 100K pretty soon. Might even manage to press my bodyweight within a month if I continue to lose fat at the rate I am. Cutting is

if you are doing 45 DBs, you should have 100kg nailed very soon (if not already to be fair!).

wouldnt surprise me if you do 100kg very soon :]
Haven't done barbell press for 9 weeks but I pushed 87.5K for 3 reps when I last did it. I'm hoping the dumbbells have given me a sufficient strength increase to hit 100K but I've always found the dumbbells to be a lot easier than the barbell.

i cannot stop eating today. doing my best to keep it midly healthy, but just cannot stop this hunger!

was fine until i came back from the gym at about 3pm ish, since then I cannot stop. ive had a fair amount of carbs and protein yet want more!
going to do myself a quark + orange options mousse in about 30 mins, i have no doubt that it will not stop this hunger though.

must have been one hell of a chest and bi's session!

I was like that yesterday. Supposed to be cutting and having 2500kcals or less and ended up eating over 3500kcals! :o

Pfft... you guys need some willpower :p

I've been on ~1500 calories (mostly protein) for the past 6 weeks, with an hour on the rowing machine at HR 160-170 six days per week (which should have me burning around 5000cal per day). I'm *constantly* hungry, even immediately after I've eaten.

I have to admit, though, it's getting really depressing. Not sure I can hold on for another six weeks! My progress is the only thing keeping me going (lost 31lbs so far :) ).

Same here :)

It will be my first ever bulk - I've always been fairly built and have only ever done weights for sport-specific strength purposes, never before for hypertrophy. Still, the prospect of eating masses of steaks, eggs, and whatever else I feel like... man, I'm drooling just thinking about it (and my stomach is growling like a dog backed into a corner!).

This is my first 'real' cut as well. I've done no sport for the past 3 years and I've ended up a fatass. I've never had to lose more than around 10lbs before so I never had to resort to 'extreme' measures. Not fun, and certainly a good motivator to keep my weight sensible in the future!

I didn't have a problem cutting, in fact enjoyed seeing the lbs drop off every week. Even the no carb days didn't effect me that much- just get in the zone.

Lost 26lbs in 8 weeks, all measurements stayed the same except I lost about 5 inches off my waist. My strength even went up a little...

Just resist the urge to eat, next time you're hungry. Get into the mindset that you will never lose fat without feeling hungry (after all, your body tries everything it can to preserve its precious fat-reserves).

It's easier said than done, I know, and if you've spent years trying hard to eat a lot it's probably an additional difficulty. But still - you have to change your mindset or you'll be cutting for months and months! Remember - it's only temporary, and everything extra that you eat is increasing the time you have to spend cutting!

no, its not easier said than done. not for me. if it was, trust me, i would be in much better condition than i am now.
