For the gym rats

I sometimes wish I owned my own gym (a dream of mine) so I could show people how it really is done and how to behave in the gym.

The problem is you would struggle to make money. the gym im in at the mo is a dream gym, yet its dead. The membership price is shockingly cheap (4 friends something like £65 a month for all 4 people). The equipment is fantastic, yet most of it doesnt get used. I would love to see gyms like that available all over the UK, but there isnt enough people to make it worthwhile :/

I was going to start a new thread on MP asking what the legality is of me videoing someone on my phone (couldn't care less if they know or not tbh) and then posting the vid on the forums for people to see for themselves the kind of clowns I deal with daily at that place :D

You're probably ok if you don't show the persons face - although some of the faces people pull are comedy gold :p

The joys of training in my garage!

There is a couple of bodybuilding gyms in my town where several people train to compete, i'll probably end up at one of them eventually though.

Last two of the 10 rep range tonight, wooop

Chong - what is the classic mistake that most of these "time-wasters" are making? Is there one or are there all sorts?

I ask for two reasons: 1, I don't want to be on them ;) and 2, perhaps they just have different goals to your amazing self :p.

1. Then do some research and/or ask someone who looks like they know what they're doing.

2. I prefer the term 'awesome' ;) :p

So nothing in particular stands out to you as a classic mistake then?

Last night I did my first ever squat set with a light bar (30kg I think lol) and I'm not totally sure that I was doing it properly. However today my legs are murder so I guess it did something. Great exercise and I wish I'd started doing them sooner, only there's not much room in my gym and nobody ever does them so I felt like a bit of a spoon, especially using such a light load to try and master form before weight.

Yes, poor form, poor exercise choices and total lack of effort.

Hardly anyone seems to sweat, or do any compound exercises and those that do, perform them so badly I can't watch.... but I might start videoing a few for a laugh :D

It's not just weights either. There are about 30 treadmills in the gym and on half of them were girls walking the whole time I was in the gym... wtf is that about?

as long as its not for profit theres no law, you can film whoever you want otherwise, lets be honest, most family home movies would be liable for breach of rights
Difference is most home movies ;) aren't for public viewing

What's wrong with walking on a treadmill? Get a nice quick pace and some incline on there and its good low intensity cardio - what annoys me is people who do that but hang onto the top of the display panel, effectively removing the incline altogether

Please do as I would love to see examples of how not to do it. Be careful though as if you get clocked someone might think you're some kind of perv ;).

As regards walking on treadmill - each to their own surely? Nothing wrong with it and I'm not a fan of the attitude that "anyone not doing what I'm doing is a pathetic waste of time". It's not exactly constructive :).

Going to the gym to walk on a treadmill for an hour?? please! Has the world gone mad??!!

Go for a ******* walk outside :p

This is what annoys me the most about the gym and the majority of the time it's girls aswell. I can think of much better things to spend £30 a month on than walking on the spot.zzzzZZzZZzzzzZZZZzzz

As it happens I generally agree Mr Chong, but people may have good reasons for it. E.g. it's v cold outside and they have bad lungs. Or they're really fat and don't want to be abused by youths ;). For example.

Fair point but I was talking about the young, fit girls that were clogging up the treadmills. It was hardly arctic weather yesterday and most looked to have a fine pair of... lungs on them ;)

walking at a brisk pace on a constant very hgh incline is a very good low impact workout.Do you know any hills 2 or 3 miles long with a constant gradiant?

Yeh, I have no objection to eye candy... except when it happens to be doing yoga karma sutra style on the mat infront of me while I'm trying to concentrate on deadlifts :o

Hehe... Anther comment today about how amazingly low i go on the squats. I squat just below parallel, which for me and the way i was taught to lift is a normal squat. It really amuses me some people consider it uber-low.
