Plenty of supps rage going on in this thread tbh :D

I'm always too busy getting on with my own training or spotting my bud to care about what anybody else is doing in the gym.

il add my goals as ive not seen this thread before.

weight stay the same tbh 80kilos.

but lose the beer gut and moobs :o

up my strength, currently benching 35kilos.
squats i hate as i do it wrong :o
dumbells i can force 20kilos some nights .

i realy need to sort out a split routine.

Hehe... Anther comment today about how amazingly low i go on the squats. I squat just below parallel, which for me and the way i was taught to lift is a normal squat. It really amuses me some people consider it uber-low.

It amazes me how low some people don't go. Last time I was in the legs room a guy was squating halfway between upright and parellel  what's the point in that? (serious question btw!)

Hardly any point really. He probably has a fear of hard work.

Fair point but I was talking about the young, fit girls that were clogging up the treadmills. It was hardly arctic weather yesterday and most looked to have a fine pair of... lungs on them ;)

They don't want to be looked at by fat bloke drivers or little school kids, they want to be looked at by fellow male gym goers ;]

Partials can be a good training tool if used correctly. However, if used exclusively they are pointless.

Lifting weights 'good as running'

Weight training could be as effective as endurance exercises like running when it comes to burning fat and warding off diabetes, a study suggests.

American scientists created mice which carried a gene that, when switched on, gave them muscles similar to those produced by weight training.

When the gene was off, the mice - which were fed a fast food diet - became obese and developed liver problems.

But when on, the same mice burned up fat, the Cell Metabolism study said.

In addition, the fatty liver disease it had developed while the gene was off disappeared, and it stopped being resistant to insulin, a condition which can lead to type II diabetes.

This was despite the fact that the mouse was still eating a diet high in fat and sugar and did not increase its physical activity.

The team from the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) genetically engineered the mouse to grow a certain type of muscle - known as Type II - which develops as a result of resistance training.

This is different to the muscle which forms as a result of endurance training such as running, known as Type I.

"We've shown that Type II muscle does more than allow you to pick up heavy objects," said Kenneth Walsh of BUSM. "It's also important in controlling whole-body metabolism."

The researchers suggested it may be because an increase in this type of muscle sparks changes in the rest of the body.

Professor Ken Fox, an exercise specialist at the University of Bristol, said that attention was increasingly turning to resistance exercise as a means to improve metabolism.

"If you have these muscles, even when you are not doing much, you are still burning up energy.

"It's a hot topic at the moment. It's something that could be particularly useful for older people who may have trouble with endurance exercise, and it can be very satisfying because the effects of resistance training appear very quickly."

Who would have thought? If you've got more muscle you burn more calories

Going faster than walking pace would probably mean their make-up might smudge. You can often see women mincing around in the pool trying to not to get their hair or face wet for similar reasons. They'd be okay until I'd John Smith's Bomb into the pool  :D

yeah i get that, although not in a gym, m8's come round (who are like 20+ kilo lighter than me) and they are all   when i load up like 120kg then i go ATG with it for 10 or so and it just blows them away, i feel like such a git when they are squatting and im just yelling at them "your still stood up ya freaking wuss SQUAT ALREADY!!!"

They get all upset and go train partials with their other friends. Earned me a cool rep as a super hardcore trainer though locally which i love, no one dares train here except me and my brother who is also insane :D

Feel a little bit of a cold coming on, tonight is my final 10 rep workout though so i'm going to push through it.

Had 2000mg Vit C with breakfast and i'll without a doubt have at least another 2000mg before bed and 1000mg post-workout. I'll hit some anti-oxidants and all should be well. I never usually get to the stage where I feel that bad so hopefully this is the same.

I'm not drinking at all this weekend either so i'm sure i'll be ok to keep training.

It starts getting hard from now on in Wardie, if your nutrition isn't upto scratch it'll be found out.

Chill on the Vitamin C, anymore than 500mg in a single dose and it's been shown it can turn pro-oxidant. I up my intake to about 4g a day when training really hard but always split up into smaller doses and I always try to take it with something that contains Vit C naturally to try and optimize uptake. Otherwise a lot will be wasted.

Thanks, i'll keep that in mind and hit the oranges post workout.

My diet is pretty solid and my supplements are pretty good as well. Once I get back to work from college i'll post up a typical day to show you. I can't wait to get the 5x5 started, I really quite enjoy 5 reps.

Wardie,

It may not just be a cold, it could be that you are working very hard, maybe too hard for your body at the moment. Keep you diet up to scratch and watch for overtraining.
