For the gym rats

About half the gyms I've been to use lbs over kilograms. The problem worsens when machines list plates as 10, 20 , 30 etc with no indication of what that 10 or 20 is measured in. There have been several gyms where I've noticed machines being in a different measurement to kilograms, whether it's lbs or simply a level indication.

Does your machine explicitly say kilograms? The only reason I ask is because the weight your doing is extremely high, all of the biggest guys in the gym only just manage to come close to that. You must have a massive back and biceps to pull it down to your chest.

I guarentee it's in KG. Heres why from what your talking about earlier hanging from it etc. I weigh 13 stone which is like 83 kilos. If I jam it on 124 like I usually do I can hang from it without touching the ground etc. But the machines are def in kilos.

Not meaning to dismiss your lift, it sounds very impressive but machines aren't a good way of showing strength. I'd be immensely impressed if you posted a video of you doing pullups with a 70kg plate strapped to your waist though ;)

Reason I say that is because the pulley systems on machines can make lifts much easier. In my gym that's brand new, on the same equipement there's a big difference on the very end machine. I need to use approx 20% lighter weight on that than on any of the others and they're all the same!

Excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing your video later on. I'm curious what are your compound lifts like - massive if the lat pull down is anything to go by.

I'd definitely like to see the video of you banging out pullups with a girl hanging onto you!
Don't be offended by the skepticism, it is just quite a lift, y'know! I'm in a metric country and many of the machines at the gym are in lbs... mostly being made by american companies. 176lbs also conveniently works out at 80kg too...

150kg lat pull down is doable, I could probably managed 1-2 reps, my form probably wouldn't be the best though. I am very strong for my size though, this is mainly down to the fact I did a lot of strength training years ago.

I've got a very strong back but I'd struggle with that weight, tbh I don't think I could pull down 170kg. I've done 120kg fairly easily for 6, but 150kg I might be able to do, but I doubt my form would be good. I still find 100kg a good work out and I weight nearly 100kg! :p

There is no way you can pull down wellover 1/10th of a tonne, there are people who would struggle to squat that.

you are a dirty lier.

Well from your previous posts im reckoning you can only pull 40kg or something? lulz.

A lot of people here would be able to do it.

Pull down 176KG? Do you have any idea how much that is?... Basically... its 27 stone, which is a couple of KG off the weight of two Gavin Hensons. That's utter rubbish lol. Sorry, but Ronnie Coleman would have trouble doing 1 Rep with that.

You'd recommend this without a squat rack? surely he wouldn't be able to use any kind of high weight.
Why would you need a squat rack? If you can't get the weight up you'll just dump it anyway.

High weight? Have you ever done front squats lol ;) I'd imagine most people can clean any weight they can front squat, certainly in the beginning anyway.

SK07, The weight steps you quote seem rather strange for something marked in kg (142, 156 and 178) as every machine I have seen progresses in 5kg steps.

Those values if taken as lb convert rather nicely to 65,70 and 80kg....
