For the gym rats

SK07, The weight steps you quote seem rather strange for something marked in kg (142, 156 and 178) as every machine I have seen progresses in 5kg steps.

Those values if taken as lb convert rather nicely to 65,70 and 80kg....
That's a good point actually, though some of the machines in my gym go up in 7.5kg steps, annoying tbh!! Even so they still go up in tidy uniform numbers and not all over the place as pointed out above.

It would have to be a serious piece of kit to have so much weight too! Most I've seen are stacked at 100kg or 120kg.

No personal attacks in here!! Big Kev

I'm LOL'in at that one...hehe

Im pretty good at the old lats myself....and probably max I'd be happy with over 100K's. He's nearly twice that heavy!

Agreed...Ive never even seen a pull down machine with that weight...and ive used a good few gyms.

Because it does not exist, I train in a gym designed for athletes, football players workout there are even our lat pull down rack goes only to 240lbs.

This guy is full of ****

You'd recommend this without a squat rack? surely he wouldn't be able to use any kind of high weight.

The danger is having to clean the bar then lift it over my head with a normal squat. This is eliminated by a front squat as, as Chong says, the bar can be dumped if it can't be cleaned.

Anyway I tried it at the gym and couldn't get my elbows high enough, so I just lifted the bar over my head and did some light squats. In the meantime I will work on my wrist flexibility and hope they get a squat rack! If I can't get the front squat sorted I'll have to look at hacks or the smith machine, only I can't imagine hacks provide the same core workout that high bar squats do.

200kg lat pull down? I think ive seen Cutler do them in one of his vids. Never seen anyone do that in real life, i can do maybe 70 or 80 on a lat machine. I can do ten close chins on a good day at 110kg's but this doesnt correlate to even 100k wide pull downs. Doubt i could even 'cheat' 100 or so up with a big back pull.

Numbers + internetz eh ?

Sure it seems like a high number and correlates much better to lbs, but there is no need for personal insults.

Now can certain people just grow up and stop ruining a good thread.

Tonight I trained biceps and quads. Managed to curl 50kg on the straight bar for 6 reps then on the seated dumbbell curl I got 8 reps out at 26kg.

They are very difficult and the wrist thing gets most people. I have to use a crossed arm style and it's a pain in the ass.

I'd do hack squats if I were you, I wouldn't use the Smith Machine. Maybe give it a try, some people seem to get on with it, I just can't.

Is there a significant difference between muscles worked by smith squats and leg press?

Yes I'd say so. The leg press can't really hold a candle to squats... even in a smith :) To be totally honest though I'm no expert on leg press, I think I've done 20 sets total in my whole life. Don't like them and the only thing they seem to make you stronger at is... leg press? haha :)

I'm going to **** a few people off here but leg press is for pussys who can't handle squats imho :p
