For those that wanted pics of my new mondeo

TBH the SVT parts in my opinion aren't worth the hasstle, AFAIK after fitting them you need to get a re-map done and then you see your fuel consumption go down even further, lol.

Out of interest how is that unichip working for you, did you have a re-map after getting it fitted and how is you fuel consumption now. I've heard a LOT of horror stories from people who have fitted them getting VERY LOW mpg, mine isn't brilliant I suppose I currently average about 22-23mpg around town and about 30mpg on a mixture of rural and urban driving but as a general rule of thumb I am getting on average about 120miles or just under to £20 of petrol which I'm happy with as I don't drive like Miss Daisy :D

Stu

I found a good increase in performance when i had the chip fitted but the best part was my fuel consumption is now excellent compared to what it used to be. Now i get about 250 miles to a full tank of petrol and i usually drive around like a bat out of hell :D.

If you want i cvan take a pic of my graph the day it was mapped when i had the chip fitted.

There was a range of options such as various different alloy wheels for the Mk2, and a rear boot spoiler was available from the cars launch in 1996. Also mesh grilles etc on the Zetec? :p

Options though, not standard, and it seems since Ford also give humungous fleet discounts, and fleet managers are notoriously tight on 'options', perhaps that is why there are so many standard Mondeo's around..

I do admit that with decent factory wheels/minor tat, I find both the Mondeo and Vectra bearable.. however, the 406 seems to look OK without the need for much 'tat'.. :p

Mondeo Zetec, one of the biggest selling models in the range (And also virtually the cheapest, when new it was less than the LX) had 16" alloys, mesh grille and spoiler..

Vectra LS had no spoiler and no wheels, not quite sure what your point is really? :p

I was looking at getting an ST200 grille for my ST24 (and then my Si to go with the RSAP kit I got), but I've seen the Zetec ones which look very similar. Fox would you know if they are the same or if not what would be the differences? Different mesh?
Thanks :D

The Zetec grilles are silver plastic, the ST24/Ghia X RSAP/ST200 grille is proper wire mesh.

The Zetec grille is half the price, easier to get hold of and it's virtually impossible to tell the difference.

Might just get a Zetec one for now, although looking at eBay they seem to make almost as much as ST/Ghia/X ones. People must be unaware they are different!

Easy..
Looking at the 1999/2000 year, according to your bible (parkers :p), all 1.8/2.0 popular engine sizes..
the LX/GLX/GHIA/SI all had steel wheels as standard until the last few run-out months before the new model..
Only the Zetec had a spoiler in the mainstream models, the ST excepted..

The Vectra for the same year.. 1.8 engine sizes..
SXi/SRi/CD/CDX all came with Alloys.. only the LS didn't..
The SXi/SRI had factory spoilers, the CD/CDX where given factory spoilers on most large fleet purchases as an incentive (which seemed to work).. (sister in law works on fleet admin)..
Obviously the GSi is excepted from this..

So an easy point really.. cmon Fox, your pedestal is wobbling ;)

I did the mesh grille mod.

I will snap a pic of my custome mesh grille.

I think the mesh was £22 and the badge a fiver.

July 99 onwards, GLX, Zetec, Ghia, Ghia X, ST24, ST200 all had standard fit alloy wheels. Zetec, ST24, ST200 all had standard fit rear spoiler.

LX was the only Mondeo without alloys following July 99 refresh...

It was an option on most of them though around £250 iirc.

Often given away as part of deals as well which is why there are LX's etc around with spoilers on.

Is it really a big deal anyway? It'd have taken more than a spoiler to make Ford worry about the attractiveness of the 95-02 Vectra ;)

I did mention that very last run-outs had more 'alloys'.. but it was only in the extremely small window of production from July 1999 to Jan 2000 when the new model came along..

Anyhoo, whilst jousting, I am starting to see the perfect VFM bargain for my next cheap commuter is the Mondeo Zetec TDCI 115, 2001 Y for £3.5K (75K miles).. I will now bow to your superior knowledge and ask if there is anything to watch out for on these early new shape models??

Rusty doors and a rear suspension bush (cant remember exact details on this).

Yeah, at work i've heard of a few (that have come up for their first or second MOT) that have knackered bushes in the rear beam. Problem is afaik you can only buy a complete beam at the minute, although I fully expect replacement bushes to become available from motor factors soon. The price of the beam isn't that bad (about £130 I think) but it's obviously better if you can just replace the bushes! :p

AFAIK the bushes are now available from Ford!
