Ford Capri is back...

if the real capri can only pass the emissions test VVVV; though Sadiq han't been emasculated, so, like paris, would similarly become a populist cause.
From September 1, 2024, SUV, petrol and plug-in hybrid owners with cars weighing more than 1600kg, and owners of electric cars weighing more than 2000kg travelling into Paris will be charged up to €37.50 per hour (~$60) to park in the city centre, and up to €30 (~$50) per hour in the rest of the city.
manufacturers must be considering such legislation for new architectures - magnesium chassis en option.
(yes - that article doesn't have regular prices)

Am I the only one that actually thinks the original Capri was a bit crap?
depends what you're talking about and if you're comparing it to today's performance. as most cars, there was average and good. i had a 1600 Capri and it was ok, then i got a 2.0 Laser and the extra 400cc was amazing. the 3.0 were apparently even better, and the racing Capri whopped the arse off Porsches for a LONG time.

Live rear axle with rear leaf springs. The Capri was pretty basic even in its early days. At best it had 160bhp in its last version with a big heavy 2.8 V6. Toyota had the Corolla out in 1983 with a lightweight revvy 1.6 that made 130bhp in an incredibly light weight agile chassis. Then you had hot hatches like the 205 GTi etc.

Maybe I am not old enough to remember the hey day of the Capri but it feels like it was in production for too long. Most of my memories come from the MK3 and by then it was massively out of date.

A Ford capri 2.8 injection 160hp = 1170kgs (7.3kg per hp)
My 1985 RS Turbo Escort 132bhp = 861kgs (6.5kg per hp)

My 3000E was a 1972 reg. MK 1 Capri Reg. No. RSO571L. I bought it in 1977 in Aberdeen.

i have been looking closer at the new capri. i gotta admit, that whilst i stand by my initial thoughts that Ford should have made a new capri and called their new fastback SUV something different.......... but despite that i do like it.

looks wise it does more for me than the mustang E does. i wonder if it will come with blue cruise? (possibly for my parents tho i dare say its a bit big for them)

I think the Capri naming is a masterstroke, there's no way they could buy this much discussion/publicity.
i get the adage that no advertising is bad advertising....... but google Gerald Ratner...... he kind of disproved that theory ;)

Yes they are getting a lot of a buzz but doesnt that just show that here IS an appetite in the market for a new capri which is somewhat faithful to the capri.

Fiat did it with the 500, renault have done it with the 5... , VW with the beetle even the mini, which true its a far bigger car than the one it honours....... but it still 100% looks like a mini.

A Capri style design doesn’t really make any sense in the EV format.

There is almost nothing to put under such a long bonnet. Making a car with a long bonnet will mean there is naff all interior space due to the way they build them now (crash protection).

You are better off doing what MG did with their new roaster but giving it a batter name….

fair point on the crash protection i suppose. my thinking was they could have a really useful sized froot!.

Kind of pointless though as you can’t fold the seats down and thread your skis through the interior.

Perhaps golf clubs is a petter sporting equipment reference for the U.K. though.

I think they probably made this car and then decided on the name, it's so generic. It could have been any of the Ford SUVs.

I wonder it will be badged as something else abroad.

Nah the back has definitely been influenced by the Capri and they have kind of attempted to do something with the bonnet and then seemingly given up. It might as well just be a generic SUV design though it has about as much connection to the Capri.

It’s just a VW ID.5 with a different body kit and interior. The body lines/proportions are identical.

Car based on a generic SUV turns out to be a generic SUV, can’t say I’m surprised.

No one is buying a 70 grand 2 door EV Ford though, it's never going to happen.

who said anything about 70 grand? like i said i am not against the new "capri" as a car per se but if ford want to actually sell a lot of cars then surely they need to be halving that price?

in fact this is another reason why the new Capri isnt at all in the spirit of the Capri. It was a bit before my time but wasnt the Capri meant to be the British answer to the American muscle car......... but also be affordable for the "everyman"?
