Ford Mustang to be released in EU

No you don't, you get better mpg on the European NEDC test, not in the real world. The 5 and 6HP always used more fuel than the equivalent manual.

Amazing to think this is a brand new model and they are using a box that old, why?

I imagine at that price point they had to make some compromises and the gearbox was one?

Ah ignore me, because it is rental it is not performance pack, no Brembo brakes, no additional dash dials.

But consumer 50th anniversary cars got PP as standard, but rentals removed it for better ride quality.

It wasn't a rental, it was one they were selling, mate owns the dealer so said pop over to drive the one they had in stock!

Should be PP then, just odd its missing the additional dials in centre of dash that PP cars normally have, but maybe that is a feature of the 50th Edition and similar to the Euro cars which don't get the additional gauges. :)

It's main competitors such as the Dodge Challenger have the ZF 8 Speed box and cost similar money.

Indeed. And they may have to do something about it - not only does the Dodge sport an eight-speed auto, but the new Chevy Camaro will as well.

They really should, because the even the current AUTO Ford are using improves the cars performance as it gets of the line much better.

So the 8-speed AUTO if they used that would make the car even quicker and a nicer experience to drive over the current snooze auto.

That car has the 50th Anniversary Package but isn't the 50th Anniversary edition. Only the latter came with the performance pack. You can tell the 50th Anniversary edition by the louvered windows and the colour (Wimbledon White rather than Oxford White).

As for the auto gearbox, Ford are developing a 10 speed box which is probably why they are sticking with the 6 speed for now.

Yes good spot, so its a fake 50th edition, I did think when looking close at the picture it did not seem to have the PP brakes?

So its a none PP car then?

Track video, love how composed and progressive it looks in handling and how it puts the power down so well, immense grip which echoes what Chris Harris said. :)

V6 also:

Gotta say the V6 from his experience seems to understeer more, not shift as well and well obviously slower and don't mean to offend anyone but it sounds a bit meh.

V8 with basic bolt-ons:

Can clearly see the V10 in the R8 has got the legs on it in the straights, so who'd ever think the Mustang would have it in the twisties. ;)

Yup, not a PP car. I think that was the benefit of the 50th Edition rather than the Package. It's also the only version that has an automatic PP.

Some extremely dubious lines taken by the R8. I'd be shocked if the Mustang can keep up with an R8 if both driven by decent drivers.

I'm going to contact a Ford dealer this week to see what the lead time on a Mustang is, I don't want one until Q2 2016 so I'm hoping they'll say around then.

Hence the ;)
Though there is rumour the GT350 has done a 7:32 of the Ring.
It is supposed to be a very capable handling car and the GT350's are being rated up their with GT3's but by American journalist so maybe some bias going on, but needless to say Ford have done a great job, you can see from the videos its a nice handling car for sure. :)

Leadtimes Ford are quoting customers realistically of 12-18 months for those placing deposits now.

For me as a road car it will be superb fingers crossed and as long as it is OK in corners and goes like an absolute missile on the straights once I've fitted the blower I will be more than happy. :)

Ordered mine early August 2015. Expected delivery is September 2016. I understand that with the current issues they are having getting cars out of Flat Rock in RHD you are probably looking at even longer. The guys who were promised cars in 2015 from the Champions League or early orders are pretty much set on Q1 2016 now.

Hi there

Could not resist, pre-order myself a GT350 wheel whilst Ford have them on offer in the US, only $199 for the complete wheel:-

Stock wheel compared to GT350 wheel.

Once they confirm it will fit UK car fine, should do as wheels are identical so I doubt Ford would change the plug/connectors from US/UK cars. :)

Also found a great video where Sport Auto (German Magazine) track test the track pack 2015 European Mustang, which is same as UK version, except 5HP more due to manifold change.

Advert for the TV show, not JLGYT segment, but thought this would interest those in this thread. If you can get CNBC somehow it is probably worth a watch (I've no idea if it's on Sky, haven't used it in years and only have Freeview).

Would be a good watch and 750 horsepower is very easy on this new Mustang with Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger. I shall be going Whipple and starting at 600ish and working my way upto 700-800 depending on traction ability but guys in the US are reliably running over 800 wheel horsepower now on the stock engine.

Easy to break into 10s quarter mile as well:

The acceleration, insane! :D

Jesus, the auto box wipes nearly 7 mpg off the combined figure for the 2.3 Ecoboost.

What sort of crappy automatic box are Ford using?

A not very good one! :D

It's based on the ZF 6HP26. As found in various BMWs, Jags, Bentleys and still used today in the Rolls-Royce Phantom drophead. So quite what Ford have managed to do to it is something that escapes me.

Oh god... I'd forgotten how bad the gearbox was...
The V6 had without doubt, the slowest, most dimwitted and dismal auto I've ever had the misfortune to use. After driving it for an day I stuck it into the sport mode and took control. Significantly better, but still not good.

Oh, and me being in control was about 5mpg more efficient than just leaving the autobox to decide what to do itself.
