The F10 often makes its width known especially on small roads and car parks.

There's definitely a tendency for newer generations of cars to get wider than the previous ones. Can often be a problem as you say.

Not enough you would describe it as too big for UK roads though surely?

I mean looking at what Joe posted, the F-Type is slightly wider but I don't recall that getting much criticism for being too big for the UK.

F types on a B road blast.... You kinda ignore lane positioning either left or right of the lane and focus on just being between the dotted line and the hedgerow - visibility over the bonnet doesn't help either. So you end up with quite a lot of energy spent aware of its width.

But clearly it isn't too big to be useable for UK roads, or they wouldn't sell any of them :)

It depends what you want to do on UK roads. It isn't too big for wafting about but then I thought the Mustang was a super sports car (once you spend 10k on mods) :p

It was mentioned in a few reviews iirc, but mostly glossed over. In the past the Corvette was often accused of being too wide for the UK (C5 is 1,869mm, C7 is 1,877mm) but the F-Type is wider.

It not just absolute width, more how big and wide a sports car should be. Sports cars need to be agile, and that kinda gets lost when they fit into UK sized lanes with barely any gap either side. If you're looking for a cruiser then yes it's fine. If you're looking for a fun, agile, sports car you may be disappointed.

The Americans call them sports cars because they dont know any better! Anything which has a console and 'bucket seats' (i.e. not a bench) used to be considered 'sporty' over there. Although the C7 Corvette can hold it's own these days.

It does make me giggle when the Mustang keeps being referred to as a 'sports car' when the likes of Autocar's review say it really isnt. Also, sports cars should not be the size of a 5 series (large saloon), or 6 series / XKR (both GTs).

/ awaits ultra-defensive long-winded reply from Gibbo :p

Right now your in for it, 8 Pack is on his way to sort you out. ;)

Now me referring to it as a sports car is simply due to reading/watching to many American reviews where in America everything is considered a sports car if it can go round a corner. :)

Its a GT car just like you say an XKR.

The only true sports car are the Corvette and Dodge Viper, though in Europe one could they they are also not sports car really due to how big they are, they only get away with it due to no back seat. So does that make the GT350R a sports car then because they deleted the back seat? Don't say yes because every Mustang owner will tear out those rear seats so they can claim to be a true sports car. ;)

Its a GT class car.

I think a sports car really is typically a rag top, 2 seater only and pretty damn small and lightweight. S2000, Caterham, MX5 etc. :)

To be honest having had the pleasure of driving many 5 series I have never had issue driving them like I stole them, yeah they were bigger than my 911 but the increase in size never bothered me.

But to put it to a rest YES a Mustang is big car, just like a 5 series, 6 series, F-Type or XKR.

But just like those other big cars it is still very usable on a UK road. :)

I wish mine was up to that level - that's lovely! Although not my preferred choice of wheels.

mine had Appliance 5 spoke ;) Jacked up at the rear, low at the front.....useless around a corner but very quick in a straight line.
it sounded awesome...... really really loud....i also had a Ford Consul mk2 with a 428 Boss Mustang engine, Capri 3 litre axle, but that car was downright dangerous, it was like a ``Gasser High Boy``.... very high suspension, it was painted bright orange ! i only had that for two weeks, i was only 20 when i brought that car !!!!!!!!

other cars i almost brought :- mk2 Cortina with a big block chevy.....Dodge Dart Magnum 383.....Plymouth Roadrunner 440.

the fastest ``boy racer`` back then was the brand new Golf GTi mk1, but the Firebird was miles faster !

the trouble with the S2000 is it's a Honda, you need to keep its revs right up to get it to move, it's gutless at low RPM, my Hyundai Coupe 2.0 was a miles better car.....the Caterham yes, but it's very uncomfortable and for hot sunny days only, we have loads of them around here, you cant catch one in the New Forest not even in a Ferrari.

that'll do it, there is no car in the U.K that'll catch that on country roads.....not one.

ROFL. I had my suspicion that you were a fruit loop when you said a Challenger had class and style, this has cemented that opinion.
Hyundai coupe better than S2000, LMAO you couldn't make this up.

Cant agree with you on S2000 having owned one and driven the old 2.0l Hyundai coupe and new V6 one, for me the S2000 was better at everything apart from cruising. They are only gutless if you don't know how to drive them and even then gutless is too strong a word, they pickup just as well as a 2.0l Mondeo, but the whole point of the S2000 is its a sports car that is designed to make the owner smile and grin like a cheshire cat on a tight twisty b-road stirring that beautiful gearbox to keep the car in the vtec zone. It really is in another league as a sports car compared to a Hyundai coupe, keep the Hyundai for the motorway journey or a trip to the shops.

The caterham is great, but to drive the 620r with any kind of pace on a UK road you really need to be a driving god, most drivers would be quicker in an EVO or a GTR.

Caterham is an extreme sports car and is to be frank more at home on a race circuit than any UK road and even then I'd take a Porsche everytime over a Caterham even if it was for track work. :)

the Challenger has definitely more class and style than a Honda.....i mean you look at the new Civic type R, it's really ugly.

the Honda is very reliable but plain and simple, we've had loads of them...Accord, Civic, Jazz.....it's a totally boring car and useless on a motorway, it's steering is far too light at speed and it gets blown sideways by every cross breeze...... it's a nightmare at anything over 70mph.

You were talking about S2000, yet your own personal experience of Honda is just a regular run of the mill Accord, Civic and Jazz? So based on your experience on Honda's your judging the S2000 to be boring yet have never owned one?

Am confused how this thread is now talking about Honda's or Hynundai's at all let alone Jazz's. :D

the Caterham looks very hard to control, but it does give you a good sense of speed and would be great fun too.... it looks like it responds too quickly to steering input, so you'd have to be damned careful esp on a wet road :eek:

as for its speed, yea' well ..... all you can do is laugh :D

you'd need a full face helmet to drive it on the roads in the New Forest too, or you'll get everything flying in your face..... because out in the Forest our roads are dreadful.

The Jazz is designed to be boring, its not comparable to the S2000. It doesnt have proper vtec, in fact its vtec makes things feel worse. It sips thimbles of petrol doing 50mpg at 5mph queued up in traffic and idling through supermarket carparks, thats its purpose. Its gutless at low revs especially so every gear its like you are in fifth :p, which more sedate drivers probably like and its ideal for driving over speedbumps all day I guess.
The S2000 does have the full vtec, some people will hate the high revs deal with Hondas and should stay away from it, thats the driver not the car though. I like the involvement required knowing the gears matching the road, its not lazy power its a challenge and rewarding to drive :)

the Jazz is perfect if you have a muscle car as well, because it costs nothing to drive, but yes it's dead boring it's an old woman's car.

no, the Hemi Shaker is faster and better looking than the Mustang GT, it also has a great interior and its handling deffo isn't poor..

485 hp, 0 to 60 in about 4.4, 182 mph......you cant argue against the Hemi, it's the best V8 you can get, it's a living legend especially for Drag Racing

the Mustang looks great but is a boy racer, the Challenger has more Class and Style  but, the Mustang GT is deffo better than a boring looking BMW;)

unfortunately the Challenger has one massive problem, you wont be able to get it serviced or fixed over here............not easily anyway !

My God that's pretty.....
